How to build a King Elevator (Advanced)
By WingsOfTaxEvasion
This guide will go over everything you'll need to know to build an elevator for your King. You can use this advanced late game strategy to lift your King above where he should be and as a result, effectively make him impossible to reach.

Build Like You Mean It Patch:
This is an edit after the publishing of this guide. The devs have just release a patch that serves as an absolute game changer to how jump pads work, and as a result, following this guide will work slightly different now, with much better results. Because trust me, this patch is nothing but good news for the King Elevator. Let me explain, one of the key changes to jump pads that was actually listed is as follows: "Launch Pad Reliability: Launch pads now bounce units properly even if they still have downward momentum." OK, so why is this so important, it's really helpful because one of the main problems with getting this build to work and be consistent was that if the King didn't go up the elevator with enough height and wasn't dying, he would just jump in place forever and you would have to either break your build or leave your world and join back in the hopes that he will go up it properly this time. But what this patch doesn't list is even better, a hidden patch that makes it so, get this, every time a unit falls back down onto the jump pad from a height, they go back up even further. The only limitation I've found in this though is that once the King bounces high enough on one jump pad, he will eventually die of fall damage (but it's very high.) So having the different levels is still necessary, at least to some extent, but this massively decreases the amount of levels/loops of this you'll need to gain a lot of height. In a small 15 minute test build I have already managed to get the King onto a platform at the sky barrier, a feat that although was technically possible before I had never bothered to even try it.

Good Luck Reaching The King Now!

Using the patch to send the King to the sky build limit:
Requirements:
To be prepared for this build you will only need to unlock two skills:

1. The first skill you will need is the launch pad, this can be found in the local area traps category of your skill book, it will launch anything or anyone that steps onto it into the air.

2. The second skill you will need is the wind tunnel, this can be found in the area of effect traps category of your skill book, it will use a strong wind to push your King a long distance.

This will also require a lot of wood, stone and iron, so this should only realistically be done once you have complete the game and are rich in resources, it will take some time too. If even one person reads this guide and builds it, I will quite frankly be shocked.

I would also like post a small disclaimer that this could eventually become redundant as the devs plan on adding an option to move the King's spawn.
The Fundamentals:
There are a few concepts you have to cover to be able to build a King elevator, the first is using the wind tunnel to push the King onto a jump pad, you have to do this because since you can't take control of the King, you've gotta' force him to move onto it. To do this you should place the wind tunnel behind the altar that the King spawns in front of, making sure that the direction of the wind being made is going towards the King, pushing him in the process.

The second part of the process is solving how you would continue the elevator upwards through even more levels, since the moment that the King goes up on the jump pad, he will normally fall back down and either A: die! or B: keep bouncing.

The secret to continuing the elevator is by using a basic function of the King to our advantage, when moved away from his spawn, the King will always want to walk back to his spot in front of the altar. So when you blow him far away enough from it and onto the jump pad, he will attempt to move back to his spawn point while in mid-air. You will want the King to move a good 8-12 blocks up from the surface of the jump pad, then place a platform above the King's spawn, and he will attempt to walk back away from the launch pad and land up there instead.

After that you need to place wind tunnels inline with the first jump pads and have them face the jump pad on the second platform, this will fling the King onto the jump pad on the second platform and make him start to go up another level.

Once you have this down, you might have to leave your world and join back multiple times to make the King go back to his spawn, one of the most annoying things about the trial and error behind getting this right is when your King isn't going up he will either just bounce and not progress because he lacks the momentum or he will get stuck on something. You may need to let the King re spawn multiple times before you can get to test every segment of the elevator, but once you have the whole thing down you can get it to work pretty consistently.

After you've got the King to consistently go up the first jump pad with enough height and then land on the landing platform and go up the second jump pad, you can loop this as many times as you want by putting wind tunnels in line with how high the second jump pad gets him and then lead that too another jump pad and so on. Since this may sound like a mouthful, I'm going to link video demonstrations in this guide and show you a couple of examples of the plan in action.
Examples:
Here are some videos I have recorded of times I've got it to work.

You may notice this first example is very clumsily made, it wastes a lot of resources on using more jump pads and wind tunnels than is necessary. This was my first attempt and served as proof it could be done.

I did eventually perfect it in this version below, and this second version is closer in line with what you will want to build. This version is not only cheaper but also more consistent.

In both examples I have made the top/end platform in the middle of the build so it lines up with the King's spawn, this will ensure that he sits happy a the top of the elevator (safe and sound.)
I would like to share with you that if you blow him with the wind tunnel into the exact top of the jump pad and not just let him fall onto it, he will go very high. This effect can be seen in the last jump of the original proof of concept video that I linked, you'll notice when he is forced by the fan to graze the top the jump pad he goes much higher, but naturally this is hard to replicate without bothering to line it up and reload multiple times during test runs when the king gets stuck.

If anyone ever manages to consistently get down this effect in a build and make it better than the second video example here, I would love it if you posted it on the Castle Craft discord.

Final Thoughts
I will admit that this whole elevator thing is a bit of a gimmick and isn't really how the game was intended to be played, but it has been fun to mess with.

I have nothing else to say but I will say this, If you did actually read through (or even skim through) this whole guide, thank you! And if you are awesome enough to go away and attempt to build this yourself in your own world, good luck!

Special thanks to Jonathan from Twin Earth and all the awesome people on the Castle Craft discord for listening to my crazy ramblings about this awesome game. It's going to be even better when it's out of early access.

Travis.
