Stick Around

Description
Leaders paying people to do nothing... aren't we glad such silly things don't happen in this day and age?

─────────────── ⋅🛌🏻⋅ ───────────────

Adds 12 court positions available to all rulers from county-tier on upwards.

These positions have no effect on the liege and are essentially open slots you can use to hang on to courtiers that you want to keep around, so that they don't run off halfway across the world or join another court.

Only courtiers who have no other court or council positions can fill these slots. The aptitude score does not affect anything and is simply an overview of the courtier's combined skills plus their prowess. A small opinion malus is applied to anyone in the role because it's generally looked down upon to get paid to do nothing.

For Catholic realms, they are called Sinecures. Otherwise, they are simply called Retainers. The differences are purely aesthetic. I may add more cultural variations in the future.

Ironman/Achievement compatible, of course. FYI most if not all mods have been since 1.9.

I've never tested it with AGOT, but it should. Try it and let me know here if there's an issue.

does this work for AGOT?

@Sol
Nice one, thanks.

@Ryūichi
I've updated the mod, you should be able to appoint them either way now.

Line 1412 in defines under NCourtPositions:
MAX_NUMBER_IN_COURT_POSITION = 5

Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply. It works that way, thanks!

It's a bit less convenient for me as I have to track down the courtier manually instead of just opening the positions window, so I just ended up tweaking the mod and making extra clones of the position lol.

Do you have any idea where this cap might come from? A define maybe?

No, I haven't heard of that. I feel like this concept is pretty universal, anyway.

@Ryūichi
Have you tried seeing if you can still appoint courtiers through their interaction menu? Right-clicking them and going down the options to Grant Court Position ?

I haven't investigated this properly to say if it's really a bug, but I'm unable to appoint more than 5 Sinecures.

In the game I was playing I noticed that after appointing the 5th, I couldn't appoint any more as the remaining Sinecure positions became grayed out. On hover it says I don't fullfil the requirements, but the only one listed (being Catholic) is checked.

I went to test it further and disabled all mods but Stick Around, started a new 1178 game as the King of England, appointed about 90% of all court positions like in my earlier game, and again I was capped at 5 Sinecures.

Thank you for the mod by the way, it's a small but imo immersive way to get around the issue of courtiers leaving.

If you're still tweaking it, I'd also love if some character traits were taken into account when giving the position, e.g. an Ambitious characters being pissed, or Lazy or Content ones getting less Stress or something along those lines.

Finally a way to shut up my annoying vassals (in the most historically accurate way possible) giving them a fake position.

It's like your medieval posse, useless bootlickers to stroke your ego and cause endless drama. Love it.
