Sol Beast Masters (Deluxe)

Description
Beast Masters (Deluxe)
Do you like to trample your foes with War Elephants?
Unfortunately, they're restricted to a few gameplay areas.
Elephant Cavalry units aren't supported with bonuses everywhere the way Heavy_Cavalry is.
Expensive stacks of 25 units with few bonus givers are not the most reliable MAA type.

How about we fix this?
  1. Make them available to more areas.
  2. Just a few variations of elephant_cavalry units.
  3. Just a little more content for our favorite tramplers.

What this mod offers:
  • New Elephant Cavalry units:

    Unit graphics included
    • Northern Mammoths: Siberia, Northern Europe.
    • European Mastodons: West Europe, South/East Europe, South Russia.
    • Carthage Elephants: North Africa and Jerusalem
    • African Elephants: South, West, East Africa
    • Persia Elephants: Asia Minor, Persia, Middle East

  • New Tribal Era Innovations:

    • Northern Mammothry: North Europe, Siberia, North Russia, Bjarmia, Perm, Estonia, Volga Bulgaria
    • European Mastodonry:West/ and South Europe, South Russia, Galacia-Volhynia, Moldavia, Hungary
    • Carthage Elephantry: North Africa, Jerusalem
    • African Elephantry: West, South, East Africa
    • Persian Elephantry: Asia Minor, Persia, Middle East

  • New Cultural Traditions:

    • Northern Mammoth Lords: New Tradition for the Northern Mammoths!
    • European Mastodon Lords: New Tradition for the African Elephants!
    • Carthage Elephant Lords: New Tradition for the European Mastodons!
    • Persian Elephant Lords: New Tradition for the European Mastodons!
These are regional "Lords of the Elephant" variations.

  • 2 New Traits:

    • Elephant Cavalry Master 1 track of 5 levels: The trait gives growing Elephant Cavalry bonuses.
    • Elephant Whisperer: two tracks of two levels, Elephant Trainer and Elephant Shepherd, each giving bonuses to Elephantry.
    • Elephant Warpriest: non-tracked Cheat trait that gives mild elephant bonuses, lets you recruit all elephant unit types regardless of geographical region, and lets you summon an elephant army consisting of 4 stacks of each elephant type + 600 levies, for a total stack of 3000 non-inheritable troops You can use a character interaction to give a copy of this stack to anyone. Available through a character interaction on yourself only.

  • Plugged into Vanilla:

    • Elephant Pens, Domicle:
    • Elephant Pens will unlock with the new innovations in their respective geographical regions, and may now be built by Tribals in addition to Feudals.
    • Camp Elephant Reserve and Court Officer Elephantry Captain will work with new innovations.
    • Elephant Yurt added.
    • Estate Elephant Pasture upgrades will work with new innovations.

    • Elephant Accolades:
The new elephant units are eligible for accolades and have their own accolade war elephant.
      ep2 and ep3 accolades.

    • Educating Heirs: The new elephant units are eligible for accolades and have their own accolade war elephant.
      influence_child_elephant_commander supported.

    • Court Position Types: Elephantry Captain Camp Officer will recognize new traits.

    • Trait Distribution: Each culture with a county in the correct geographical_region will get the respective elephantry innovation on_game_start_after_lobby through on_actions.
I am open to changing this.

    • AI Usage: The AI will use this mod.

  • Game Balance Preserved:

This is not an OP Mod. That said, the vanilla game does not have much support for Elephant Cavalry the way it does Heavy Infantry or Horse Archers. To compensate, the traits are a little strong, but are also among the few means of improving the unit. I will rebalance as needed.
    • The traditions, innovations, and traits do not appear too unbalanced, given that:
    • The game has few sources of elephant modifiers compared to other types of units.
    • Elephant stacks are 25, hired stacks are 10. This isn't some game breaker.

I hope the traits and innovations will make War Elephants worthy units for those who invest in them.

To my knowledge, this should not require DLC to function properly but some DLC content might be enhanced by it.

Compatibilities
Ironman Compatible
Achievement Compatible

Other Mods
This should be compatible with most mods.
Mods which redefine geographical regions or rename the vanilla elephant buildings might give some trouble.
New cultures, if in the appropriate geographical region, will enjoy elephants.
If a non-compatible list arises, I will take note and see if I can solve it.

Total Conversions will probably not work because those mods do tend to rename geographic regions.

If you enjoy this mod,
Then you already know what to do...

I am on a few other things at the moment. The Sol Warriors mods do contain Jaguar Warriors and Crocodile Warriors, Bear Cavalry, Ostrich Cavalry, things like that.
Awesome idea! Can you add some more beasts? Like wolves, bears, lynx or something like that?

Shamelessly, I added a new trait you can get through a character interaction; with the trait you can recruit all elephant types, and use a character interaction to summon a regiment of special troops (non-inheritable), 4 stacks of each elephant type and a few hundred levies (regiment size 3000).

Just FYI the English loc .yml file needs "_name" at the end of each tradition, as without it none of the names show up properly. Simple fix should look like this e.g., tradition_sol_northern_mammoth_lords_name:0 "Northern Mammoth Lords." Love the mod, keep up the great work!

suggestion: elephant hunting for nomads and the hunt activity (i crave the neolithic run)
