In 1991, after the collapse of the USSR, the world entered a new era. Yet unseen levels of easy telecommunications with the advent of the internet, and a short period of relatively cool world tensions gave nations, old and young, the opportunity for prosperity. But the shadows of the cold war still lingered.

In the modern day, things are different. Two of the worlds largest military powers are in a high risk game, with small European, African, and Asian countries acting as pawns in the centre. The United States of America, since known as the worlds only superpower, is losing its grasp on the world, its power dampened by poor leadership and infighting at home. The Russian Federation, a failed democracy, is under the boot of oligarchs and falling into economic collapse rapidly. With both powers losing influence, and the EU and China rising to the top, war seems far more likely than before.
