T-72AV

The T-72AV (also referred to as T-72A with "Kontakt-1") is an upgraded version of the T-72A tank, equipped with Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armor (ERA), significantly improving its survivability against shaped-charge projectiles. This variant served as an interim model between the baseline T-72A and the later T-72B with advanced protection systems.
Saw limited action in the Soviet-Afghan War and later post-Soviet conflicts. Deployed in Chechnya during the 1990s–2000s, where its ERA proved effective against RPGs but vulnerable to ATGMs (e.g., ♥♥♥♥♥, Konkurs). Operated by the USSR, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Middle Eastern nations.
Though surpassed by modern variants (e.g., T-72B3), the T-72AV remained in service until the 2010s, primarily in reserve units.
