When a Circle Machine's egg hatches, it always hatches two creatures; a male and a female, or Yannys and Laurels as they call themselves. The rest is just general lore.

Laurels and Yannys were originally a nameless society. It all started when a group of Laurels bumped into another civilisation in the cosmos. They formed an agreement, but found it odd they were nameless. However, they started calling them Laurels and Yannys as a joke after a recently-discovered audio illusion. The Laurels, not realising the joke, thought they'd been named. The civilisation played along until the Laurels parted, leaving the Circle Machines and Yannys. From then on, they had names.
