This simulation was run with a very long cell max age of 100,000 sim steps. Other changes from default parameters include setting biomaterial conn chance to .25 (down from the normal .5). This made biomaterials less likely to adhere to other biomaterials as well as living cells, dead cells, rocks, and gas.

The environment was setup with some water sources in the upper right corner and water sinks mostly on the bottom left but a few others elsewhere. This led to a current that was quite strong at the top right.

The simulation was seeded with a single cell of type, "Common Ancestor". It had two instructions: egg and breakdown gas. That single cell was released in the very upper right hand corner near the water sources. It was rapidly swept out from where it was released.

This single cell and its progeny originally managed to populate only the bottom right hand corner of the simulation. From there it gradually had to fight its way through various currents to the other three quarters of the environment.

With the passage of time a very diverse set of cells filled the many different niches within the environment. A small selection of that diversity is shown in the screen shots.
