Project Forgotten Weapons: Hyper-realistic Cannons

Description
Namo Gatling Bodhisattvāya,
Six senses purged by uranium's might,
Prāṇa-charged thousand rounds ignite,
Raining nirvāṇa through tracer light.

Brrrt-brrrt-brrrt.

Add fire mode and fire rate to all autocannons in game, based on their realistic prototypes. Options available in MFD SMS pages.

All cannons have full-auto, burst, single fire modes. I've seen their default fire rates being accurate to reality. All I did was revealing them while adding the rest of available real-life fire rates.

Available fire rates (rpm) for each cannon as below:
GAU-8: 3900(default), 2100
M230: 625(default), 1000, 200
Vulcan: 6000(default), 4000
GAU-22: 3300(no known alternative fire rates)
GAU-94(M197): 1500(default), 750

options.json contains per-weapon configs as below:
  • Vehicle name: don't touch. This is where options and prefabs get matched.
  • Fire mode: 0 for full-auto, 1 for burst, 2 for single.
  • Rouds per burst: integer for the literal meaning. Recommend setting this to your preference.
  • Force complete burst:
true - the cannon will fire exactly the rounds per burst each time it starts firing, even with trigger released half way
false - the cannnon stops when you release the trigger, and rounds per burst only works as upper bound if trigger is hold
  • Burst interval: decimal value for seconds to wait before you can start another burst. Currently not working
  • Fire rate mode: indexing saved selection for fire rates. Starting counting with 0,
  • Available fire rates: list of available fire rates. Change at your own risk.

Q&A

Q: Multiplayer compatible?
A: NO.

Q: The mod wouldn't work as normal once I changed my options.json.
A: Either you or the update might have broken the file hierarchy. Backup your options.json and restart the game. Make sure to enable this mod. The mod should then recreate the file, giving you chance to move configs back line by line.

Q: The whole weapon system was broken once I rearmed.
A: It's bound to happen, since I haven't programmed with rearming in mind at all. I'll prioritize this in the next update.

Q: Why bother making this (almost) useless mod?
A: One case I found this really handy is for M230, where many players found short bursts saving them from its disastrous spread due to continuous firing. On top of that, I must admit it took me too long to make such a simple mod. This mod is a tombstone of my time wasted on reading through codes.

Q: Bug fixes & updates when?
A: Idk, especially what to introduce in the future. Leave a comment of bugs or ideas, but don't stare at it all days.
