[HS]-Sheffield to Manchester Semi-Fast, Part 2 (Class 76)

In 1 collection by Highball Simulation
Woodhead (1950s) Scenarios
20 items
Description
14 Class 76s were configured to operate passenger trains, being fitted with steam heating boilers to allow them to heat coaching stock during the brutal Pennine winters. These locomotives were turned out in BR Green, and were usually allocated to semi-fast workings between Sheffield and Manchester. In this two-part scenario, we will recreate a typical semi-fast working of the early 1960s between Sheffield Victoria and Manchester London Road. In Part 2, you will resume the run from Hadfield, calling at Guide Bridge and finally Manchester London Road. Duration: 20 minutes.

DLC Requirements:
Woodhead Route (1950s)
Western Lines of Scotland
Class 303 (standing in for Class 506 units)
Class 77 Locomotive Pack
Robinson O4

@chris The EM1s were equipped with foot warmers to cope with cold weather (the switch can be toggled but it does nothing). I can safely imagine that the speed might have made for an interesting driving challenge, though the regenerative brakes would have been useful for keeping speed under control! I'll admit when it comes to timings this was a bit of an experiment; perhaps adding an extra minute in future would help.

Going downhill slightly easier with timing, still tightish but arrived on time. I imagine in that weather the drivers would prefer being in the cab of a 76 rather than on the footplate of a steam loco. Nice AI particularly running alongside the long freight at Guide Bridge. Must confess although timing on tight side for me I did enjoy the trip over the Pennines in the snow. Kind Regards. Chris
