A Giant Problem

Kuvaus
Description:
The last few weeks have seen increasing goblin activity near the village of Neganburg and reports of hostile giants in the vicinity. To make matters worse, the leader of the town militia, Lucas Stormspear, mysteriously vanished from his home last night! With the militia fully occupied by the goblin threat, the town lacks the resources to investigate Lucas' disappearance. Can you find the missing town militia leader and bring stability to the area?

Notes:
  • Level 1 characters will advance to level 16 (higher with UB mod, though I have not tested it with UB). The storyline is linear, with a focus on combat.

  • Be sure to actually read (using the game mechanics) any documents you find to advance the quests. On the PC, this is done by right-clicking the item and selecting "Read". You will need to know the language of the document (or use spells or magic items) to read the text.

  • The party will almost always have access to a rest point, but you may have to travel a little to get there. This is intentional to create tension for the player(s) -- i.e., "should we keep going or go back to rest?" In some cases, there may be consequences to going back to rest (i.e. you should not assume you can go into a monster stronghold, kill half the inhabitants, then leave and come back as if nothing happened). Consequences are more likely if the monster boss is still alive.

  • Many of the encounters will be challenging. Recommend using the 'max hp per level' setting. A party with at least one "tank" with high armor class and a spell caster capable of casting area denial spells like spike growth, wall of fire, etc. will be helpful. As in the original modules, the use of stealth to scout out areas and setup ambushes is a good strategy.

  • I have playtested solo (PC) and co-op (PC-XBox). Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Everybody thx for the help! I watched some youtube videos on how to build the best Ranger and Warlock and use the SHORT REST. To my shock I went from lousy - average to very good. The Warlock is very limited unless you unlock the use scrolls setting, then he can cast anything arcane that you pickup, this also works well for the Ranger(your call). One trick I have learned is if you walk into a trap with many bowmen use fog, hide in the fog and then step out to shoot - always works.

Hi Jimbabwe. I just finished the mod. Quite enjoyable fights in 5-person cata with UB. It was a little difficult levels 1-4 but you always gave ways to beat the fights (tank dodge, choke points etc). After lvl 5 it was good. Mid levels I would add more magic casters and varied enemies as my combo web + sickening radiance just eliminated all the melee without sweat. Maybe some hirelings with Giants? Anyway, good work and some of the last fights would have been hard without UB and OP classes.

I'm stuck on the florin Woods (can't read the golark's orders) any help how to advance? I dont have any spell or magic item to be able to read the document.

I've also been really enjoying this one, stealth parties need to beware there's a few opponents with very high perception and they *will* see you. It's not too common though. Also found some nice custom bows, which is very cool, don't see custom bows often really.

If you use 6 party teams with the UB you do have to use the "pause, select party members one at a time and move them to the portal, then unpause" or the "go into cautious mode and move the party across the portal back and forth" tricks to get them to work, but that's the same for most campaigns honestly.

If any doors close before the whole party gets into a room. You can enable the cheats menu, then go into the control config settings and set a hot key for teleport. This will let you put your whole party into the room, so you don't have anyone left out.

Just wanted to say how much i'm liking this one, lots of cool little details, and hope the tips help anyone who is stuck on the portals.

Man I'm enjoying this so far. Genuinely not trying to jerk anyone's chain who previously complained it was too hard, but the goblin caves are excellently designed, a real challenge once the cave-in blocks the exit , and very true to the original PnP modules. You really need to make judicious use of resources and terrain, and plan your tactics instead of blindly just charging into the next fight. Difficult, yes, but not too hard. Well done so far, and thanks!

Unless it was the other map, then instead of stairs down there's one place with "stairs up to the tower" and there's a resting spot there, with a manacalon crypt downstairs.

There's a rest spot in the crypt, one of the buildings before you even find the Stronghold. And no, no gamebreaking bugs that make progressing impossible. Just loot the boss rooms (check the map they're usually titled X's private quarters/room) and read those documents to fulfill "collect intelligence" quest requirement.

GREAT game best yet. Just using 4 party. When I tried to use UB and used 6 I could not leave Neganburg. I walked over the portal and nothing happened. Just as well 6 would have been too easy -- perhaps I need to update the mod? Jimbabwe I did not find a resting area in the Hill Giant fortress, as a result I leveled up two when I finally got a rest. Was there a rest spot in the Hill Giant fortress?
