[HS]-Express to Sheffield (Class 77)

In 1 collection by Highball Simulation
Woodhead (1950s) Scenarios
20 items
Description
The seven members of Class EM2, later known as Class 77, were built to work express trains over the Woodhead route, and were capable of speeds of up to 75 miles per hour. In this scenario, you will be taking the controls of one on an express passenger train bound for Sheffield. As the scenario begins, you are currently awaiting clearance to depart, so once boarding is complete and the signal clears you can begin your run. You will have only one intermediate stop at Penistone. Duration: 50 minutes.

DLC Requirements:
Woodhead Route (1950s)
Western Lines of Scotland
Class 303 (standing in for Class 506 units)
Class 77 Locomotive Pack
Robinson O4

@Rammy Based on my own experience, nothing actually happens if you run above that level-and I tend to run the 76 from WHBR in simple mode anyway.

Had to Learn how to Drive the Class 77 its that long since i have Driven one . An Enjoyable Scenario but i was about a Minute Late at Pennistone i didn't go above 79% Power as the Resistance Indicator kept lighting up which is Generally to be Avoided according to the Manual. Thank You.

@chris On electric locos, Series power mode is used for initial starts or slower speed working, whilst Parallel is used for high speed running. On the 76s and 77s the modes had to be changed manually through throwing the Load Transfer Switch then shifting the Combination Lever up or down (the old 76 and 77 automates this process so only the Combination Lever needs to be moved). On more modern electric traction such as the Class 87 or EMUs such as the Class 317 the traction motors switch from Series to Parallel automatically. Technical explanation over, I'm glad you enjoyed this-these scenarios were good fun to put together, and in the near future versions using WHBR stock will be released. The 76 from that route is very well simulated-such a shame the manual explains how to drive it really badly...

Enjoyable run over the Pennines particularly as heading towards Yorkshire !!! Parallel running does make a big difference - my degree was Chemistry so Physics generally a black art to me - I do know what serial and parallel are but how they affect the running of an electric loco haven't a clue, mind you as a driver don't really need to know how just what it does when I throw the switch. Agree with John timing at Penistone tight but fine and managed Sheffield on the dot at 10.50. Some excellent AI on this one. Kind Regards. Chris

@pjohnandlyns Thanks for playing. As previously noted I've been making an effort to reduce the amount of sitting about in express scenarios.

@tonix OK.

yes thanks

@tonix Remember to gain more acceleration you need to switch the traction motors from series to parallel at about 30 mph.

nice express run with good AI.
only in the middle if got an X because 2 minutes too late.
no prob. thank you
