Description
A group of pirates has set up an illegal mining operation in your local faction's territory, and they need your help to take it out! Blast pirate miners as they trickle into a nearby asteroid belt, and scoop up all of the ores they're carrying with them! Just make sure you unbrand them before you try to refine them. This is a common mission that can be found at both military outposts and resource depots.

yeah I think this + raid pirate shipment are definitely on the more difficult side of things. if you want something easier, "Ambush Pirate Raiders" is designed as the sort of intro mission.

Also if you're having trouble, stick to the "Medium" difficulty ones. They're going to be significantly easier than the "Extreme" difficulty versions.

There's sort of a cap. Don't look at this if you don't want to know some technical dtails about how the mission works. Depending on the hidden difficulty level of the mission there can be up to 10 "background pirates" (AKA weaker waves between the main waves). The only thing that isn't really capped is the escort spawns, which will always come in a group of at least 4, but can start getting up to 6 or 7 if you try to go past the minimum number of miners and kill up to 12 or so.

If you're struggling to clean out the pirates in time, I'd suggest bringing more firepower and more ships. In my current save I've been running this with 5 combat ships that have anywhere from 5k to 24k firepower and it still gets pretty spicy when I've gotten up to 10-11 miner kills - even on the lowest difficulty.

Gotcha, I'll give it another go. I was just frustrated because I had 25 enemy pirates on me in about 10 minutes and it felt like overkill. I feel like it should be capped at like 12 or 15 or something but I get it.

That said, if you've found any bugs please feel free to send them my way. I've played this mission pretty extensively - you can get a ton of ore via these so they're pretty good for starting out in a new region - and I have not noticed any myself.

The mission spawns pirates as long as it is active to give the player something to do(you are just sitting there bored and waiting for more miners to spawn otherwise) and make the mission more challenging over time. I think it's fun to scramble to keep a lid on pirate spawns while waiting for the next miner to show up.

You need to kill a minimum number of miners before the mission is done. You were likely short of the goal - the # of miners killed / miners killed required is tracked via the mission objectives so you can see how far away you are from winning.

Why do enemies spawn infinitely? Wave after wave of pirates spawn non stop. It's not fun. I decided to just kill all miners and mission didn't complete.

Wow, this mod is COOL.

And it is somewhat challenging since you'll ahve to hold the line while actively hunting for miners. Great mod, man!

In the meantime, try Annihilatorium or Expand Smuggler Operations.
