The SBB RABe 523.1 and RABe 523.5 belong to the Stadler FLIRT (Fast Light Innovative Regional Train) family and play a central role in Swiss regional and suburban railway transport. Their history is closely linked to the expansion of modern, barrier-free local transport trains in Switzerland, and the RABe 523.5 trains are part of a new delivery series that builds on experience with the first generation. RABe 523.5 (sometimes also known as ‘FLIRT Mouette’) trains operate in the Lausanne - Vallorbe, Le Brassus and Vaud S-Bahn areas, among others.
