How to Show: Basic Courtesy and Respect
By Bizargh
A guide on how to "Show basic courtesy and respect" while operating within the Community Hubs of the Halo franchise on Steam, along with the consequences you can expect if you have been deemed failing to do so by those who "monitor" them.

Step One
Provide an earnest answer to a question that, as best as the user's wording & most recent Post History indicate, was asked in earnest in the General Discussions:
Step Two
Await results usually within the hour, if not the day:
  • The Result
Conclusion
And that's it! Comments across the entire board, Screenshots, Artwork, Broadcasts, Videos, Guides, quite possibly Workshop Submissions, all completely locked off in addition to the Discussions. Although, it is fair to also note that I:
  • Had a subsequent Post that may have possibly, but doubtfully been a factor:

  • Had received a Private Message reading "Due to mentioning a banned term (Eldewrito), I have to remove your comment. You will not be receiving any further moderation actions for this." that also provided my Post in full to allow me to adjust accordingly a year beforehand:

  • Had received a "Warning For: Bypassing the Profanity Filter" via the Halo Infinite Community Hub, accompanied by a Private Message that provided my post in full to allow me to adjust accordingly two months beforehand:
    1. Warning For: Bypassing the Profanity Filter
      Reason:
It looks like you have altered profanity in your message, which causes it to not be hidden by our profanity filter. When posting in the future, please do not alter profane words.

My prior, unrelated Post History (Mod Recommendations, Answers to Questions, a Topic regarding a now-irrelevant Easy Anti-Cheat Issue, largely things I got an unexpected amount of thanks & lack of grief for) within the Halo: The Master Chief Collection Community Hub was also entirely hidden or even erased, which is something I know to have been manually done in addition as I have seen other long-term or permanent bans that have not done this, just as I have also read accounts & seen numerous signs of this being common practice.

However, there may be other ways to meet similar, equivalent or even greater results just as fast as these people have described being met with, of which I have personally observed others being met with in a similar or even identical manner:

The monitors are just banning people like me for even posting about it.

Snickerdoodle cried "misinformation" when I brought it up.

They banned me from MCC entirely until 12/29/2552 a week after.

Its reaaaaally irritating no relevant youtuber has picked up what you have been through or even an ounce of the waypoint rebellion.

I got so close with Rocket Sloth on this but he changed his mind and deleted the whole discussion on his discord but he didn't ban me.

I was banned by Titan, whose favorite Halo games are 4 & 5, for "no intent in participating constructively to the conversation".

Same moderator who sometimes replies "ok 👍" when his horrible arguments are defeated by facts by some random dude who was just asking why the game is the way it is.

In the Steam group when they posted about gay pride, I posted in it that I didn't like companies using being gay as a marketing tool, and that it felt disingenuous. My comment was deleted, and when I brought it up to the discord mods (who also moderate the steam pages) they said that wasn't the place to talk about it.

It feels very washed out and corporate, like the community exists to provide an illusion of a vibrant community, but it's a very managed and controlled community.

Make of that what you will.

I got perm-banned from the Steam Community for saying that as someone who has numerous disabilities, we should reward people for overcoming them, not having them during disability pride day. The only thing it said was 'show some common decency and respect'. Like, okay, gg, thanks for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life sentence over a knee-jerk decision in complete bad faith. I wasn't even the only one that had that take.

I can't leave reviews for mods or get tech support within the community. I then found that a previous post about MCC crashing on launch (I couldn't open the game at all for a week) I made was deleted. I don't know if that's an automatic thing, or this guy was so asshurt that he went back and deleted that irrelevant post just because I hurt his feelings so bad.

And, just in case you believed that such localised rules as "Be respectful", "Do not use profanity" & "Do not insult" are as respected by the moderators/"monitors"/staff as they demand from their users:

Can you doomers shut the hell up?

Unfortunately, discussing, let-alone appealing such a result is an incredibly more difficult endeavour:
The Difficult Endeavour
- FIRST REQUEST FOR MEANS OF DISCUSSION AND/OR APPEAL
(After having already contacted Steam Support & establishing both to myself & them that Halo Support "only manages game bans"[support.halowaypoint.com])
(Although this was within an "Official Server", all Display Names besides my own have been inked-out as per professionally-informed advice I had received, but I can provide copies with Staff Display Names not inked-out if requested).
  • MISSING: An opening request similarly worded to that which I sent to 'ModMail' & Steam Support pinging the two Steam moderators known to me, missing due to being deleted by staff mid-exchange
  • .png]
  • MISSING: A follow-up to my question for specifics after waiting half an hour for a response, worded as I can best recall as "Well? Are you able to? I am willing to accept a "No" as an answer. If not yourself, then could '[Other known Steam Moderator I pinged]' or another colleague be able to help instead?", missing due to being deleted by staff mid-exchange

- SECOND REQUEST FOR MEANS OF DISCUSSION OR APPEAL
(Although this was within an "Official Server", all Display Names besides my own have been inked-out as per professionally-informed advice I had received, but I can provide copies with Staff Display Names not inked-out if requested).

    MODMAIL CONCLUDES
  • .png]

- RESPONDING TO BAN MESSAGE, BOTH BEFORE & AFTER AS INSTRUCTED

- A "MIGHT AS WELL USE IT SINCE I STILL HAVE IT" MOMENT AFTER NUMEROUS BAN MESSAGE RESPONSES TO NO AVAIL & TWO STEAM SUPPORT TICKETS
(Especially as "If you have a question or concern about a forum moderation decision, please private message the applicable moderator." still remains official advice and the "applicable moderator" for this decision continues to be unavailable, if not withheld information)
(Although the account I communicated with no longer exists, it is nonetheless inked-out due to being an account unrelated to official operations)
  • .png]
  • .png]
  • [Voluntarily deleting my own Tweets approximately 30mins later as I figured that they had served their purpose, the account I communicated with would likely do the same for their own & I would rather not revisit this discussion, but not before retaining an image & U.R.L. record of it for Steam Support and then only recently discovering that the Wayback Machine had recorded the whole exchange anyway]
  • .png]
I would've attempted to also raise the issue directly to another Steam Moderator that I knew of in this manner, but they distinctly disclosed that this was not an available means of contacting them. I would've otherwise tried to directly raise the issue via their own Steam Profiles or Discord One-to-One beforehand, but they had already completely closed such channels for initiating contact for reasons both understandable & undoubtedly obvious.

- AND JUST TO FURTHER DEMONSTRATE THAT RESPONSES TO BAN MESSAGES ARE IGNORED...
Example One:

Example Two:

- ...EXCEPT WHEN THEY ARE NOT

Just for clarification, the the "month of illness & pain" that I mentioned within 'Example One' included:
  • Looking after a member of my household that I care for who had caught a later-suspected-by-doctor whooping cough during the final week of the prior month
  • Catching this then-suspected-by-doctor whooping cough for myself shortly after
  • The resulting coughing until retching at its worst, difficulty achieving a full night's sleep for weeks due to continued coughing with the sorest throat I can recall having, and back pain that got agonising enough to trap me in a chair for up to an hour until freed by pain relief & have me wheel-chaired into hospital for an emergency x-ray (Thankfully, it was muscular as I had believed, but it remains amongst the greatest pain I have felt to date alongside a kidney stone)
So if it appears that my patience was gradually being worn thin over the course of the 21 days I was actively attempting to resolve this matter whilst/after also dealing with & being practically housebound by the previous, then it's because it very much was.
The Difficult Endeavour (Continued)
And, while I lost the full record of my first exchange with Steam Support due to not foreseeing that they were erased after 60 days (I do at least have the Ticket No. in case Steam does keep a record that I could request), I was able to save this particular response that I found interesting:
Message from Steam Support on Jun 18 @ 11:54pm

Hello,

We understand the concern, but despite a lack of what you would likely find to be a satisfactory response from the team associated with the publisher/developer, Steam support agents do not have the authority to remove bans issued by the aforementioned team.

As all known and suggested channels of communication seem to have been tried, we have no further recommendations in regards to appealing the decision with the relevant party.

Is there anything else we can help you with?

Steam Support
[Name]
Although I do have a full text record of my exchanges beyond the first Ticket, it did not seem necessary to provide them as an example. In short: Despite being polite, professional & even prompt, they made it clear that they were not in a position to do anything further than "forwarding your comments on to the appropriate department".

Perhaps the funny thing is that I seem to have accrued more & stronger penalties in the time after I had received the Permanent Ban:

Rather than before receiving it:

Two out of three of them being for merely mentioning that very Permanent Ban's occurrence with the third & previously-displayed "Warning For: Disrespectful Post" just as vaguely explained as the Permanent Ban was, especially since Posts of a similar nature by myself still remain visible & without consequences for their existence to date.
(Just for clarification: The "Community content has been removed" in 2020 was in relation to the recovered access to my Steam Account that I nearly lost due to a hijacked account from my Friends List catching me on the spot & fooling me into a situation that I only managed to positively confirm my suspicion, thanks to the genuine owner of the account that thankfully also managed to recover it, to be a scam within its duration, while the Community content has been removed" in 2023 was very much due to my own mistake).
All That Happened After
I also feel the need to note that since this Permanent Ban was issued, I have observed the following happening for Halo: The Master Chief Collection and, to the extent of my observation, Halo Infinite since:
  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkiHSr1gQdU
  2. The new 'Summer Solstice', 'Bastille Day' and 'Mexican Independence Day' Nameplates were given no mention (The writer of this Steam Guide even had to request when & how these Nameplates were being made available for unlock, as can be seen in their accompanying citations) while the returning 'Disability Pride Month', the new 'Independence Day', the returning 'International Pirate Month' & the returning 'Purple Heart Day' Nameplates were all given their own individual announcement (The latter-most example being interesting considering that the new 'Memorial Day' Nameplate before it was neglected as I had mentioned previously), before they consistently ceased announcing availability of Special-Event Nameplates altogether
  3. 343 Industries Halo Studios doing nothing more than this and demanding a minimum of UK£32 within Halo: Infinite to mark the 20th Anniversary of Halo 2, all the while riding off the back of the volunteers of the Digsite Crew releasing their restorations of the Halo 2 E3 2003 Demo and the postponed Alpha Moon.
  4. The Digsite Crew being shut down after the occurrence of the Halo Digsite Archive Giga-Leak[thegamepost.com], but not before many members parted ways due to being told by 343 Industries Halo Studios, as I personally paraphrased it to one of them, "Thanks for all of your hard-work-for-bugger-all in aiding our effort to rescue our public image. Now continue doing it for bugger-all.", but you need not take my word for it:
  5. Numerous reports of 343 Industries Halo Studios or other representatives within/for Microsoft issuing cease & desists to coverage of the contents of the Halo Digsite Archive Giga-Leak with reckless abandon (The aforementioned YouTube link providing examples), all the while the Leak itself still remained fully available for download (This I know because I acquired the full contents of the Halo Digsite Archive from it's original source for myself before it did finally succumb to expiration or a take-down)
  6. An Update to the Collection's use of Easy Anti-Cheat (Which is still not disclosed on the game's Steam Store Page, just as it is still not disclosed[support.halowaypoint.com] on the Halo Infinite Steam Store Page even after having it's post-launch introduction announced, despite numerous games released before them newly disclosing their usage of 'Kernal-Level Anti-Cheat' & upcoming Microsoft releases such as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Reloaded disclosing it's inclusion of Easy Anti-Cheat from the very moment it's Steam Store Page went public) that has, as far as I'm informed, done absolutely nothing noticeable besides annoying the entire modding scene for a couple of days & breaking the AlphaRing mod, the best available means of achieving restored & expanded native Split-Screen support
  7. All the while Halo Infinite continues to be viciously pumped full of despicably priced macro-transactions in tandem with little of significance from 343 Industries Halo Studios itself and the majority of it off the uncompensated back of the developments of the Forge Community (Some of which I vaguely hear may have since been hired by 343 Industries Halo Studios or finally getting compensated for their officially-accepted contributions, but I have not verified this for myself), while also reportedly no longer providing persistent availability for newly-added 'Operations' (A.K.A. Passes) beyond their "duration" going forward as of this year ('Frontlines' one that I'm so far fully aware of having done this) and then siphoning their contents into The Exchange & Shop indeterminately.
Yes, I am newly informed that the game recently received the 'Mutilator Shotgun' as part of the Summer 2025 Update, but a division of a trillion-dollar company finishing a weapon that was already known to have been modelled & animated beyond two years ago and giving their primary "Live Service" a brand new weapon that wasn't a remodel & a remodel with reused/salvaged particles & audio (That at least one community modder very quickly put together themselves just to make a point), all after a time-span longer than it took to develop & finish a full Call of Duty game of old & almost as long as it took to develop a full Halo game of old is a result more-so embarrassing than laudable.
All That Happened After (Continued)
My point is: Nothing that was happening at the time of my Permanent Ban nor has happened since, at least regarding Halo: The Master Chief Collection specifically, has effectively disputed anything that I have said. Therefore, I am left still asking & guessing: What was it that I said and/or did that warranted such a strong, swift & sweeping response? A response stronger than that received by someone reportedly bothering a SELACO developer from beyond the Topic, never mind far more egregious offences such as writing explicit death threats or outright doxxing people within Discussions?

As of this time, I remain very eager to be able to address/resolve this situation, preferably by
  • At minimum, being provided a more specific & detailed explanation for the decision to issue this Permanent Ban, if not why any attempt at doing so is routinely met with ignorance, stone-walling, penalties or even insults
  • At preference, seeing this Permanent Community Hub Ban altered to a Discussions-Only ban, if not revoked entirely with me having learned from my mistake of making use of the General Discussions in the first place and to never repeat this mistake again
  • At maximum, seeing this Permanent Ban revoked entirely & all Post History prior to the Ban restored, with me having learned from my mistake of making use of the General Discussions in the first place and to never repeat this mistake again.
However, I expect that
  • At best, nothing will change
  • At worst, I'll only receive further & possibly more severe penalties & consequences even beyond Steam just for so much as trying to inquire into this matter.
So...
With All This Said & Done
I am perhaps only left with the ability to sincerely suggest that you join & speak up in any Official Halo Community at your own risk, as it seems most apparent that whatever standard they set for their users/members isn't one they have any concern of upholding for themselves.

On the other hand, you are welcome to share this guide & it's contents wherever you see fit, although I'd advise doing so within the jurisdiction of Halo Community Management at your own risk.

If you do wish to contact me regarding this matter, this Steam topic is the best means that I can offer for you to do so (Even if the Steam Automatic Content Checker gets insecure & decides to snatch away what you have to say, I'll at least still be able to read it for myself) and/or establish an alternate means of doing so. Otherwise, my Steam Profile Comments are open, even if they are a much more limited means of communication & I cannot read anything that Steam Automatic Content Checker might (un)reasonably snatch from view.
