SECTION 100 – Overview
110 – INTRODUCTION – Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is a wonderful monster capture game with incredible depth, featuring more than 500 unique monsters to choose from. However, with all these choices available the early game can be very daunting to a new player. Which monsters are most effective in combat early on? Which monsters will I need for the late-game?

This guide gives detailed instructions on how to take one of the first monsters you encounter – Komodo – and craft it into a powerhouse that can carry your team throughout the game. This guide will rely heavily on the Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym, a DLC feature that is described in detail in my previous guide:

120 – TERRESTRIA PLAINS – Start a new game and progress through the opening storyline sequence. Pick any starting monster that you like – this monster will quickly get replaced on your main team. Make your way to the first combat area, the Terrestria Plains. Spend 30-60 minutes exploring this area, capture monsters and leveling up your team. I recommend catching one of each monster that you face, as your scouting rate will drop for each subsequent monster of the same species you try to catch. You’ll want to recruit at least eight monsters total, four for your Main Party and four for your Reserves. Be sure to explore all the way to the Windburnt Bluffs, which can be accessed via a spiral path on the northeastern portion of the map.

130 – PADDOCK – Completing this area will unlock the Zoom Spell, which allows you to fast travel across the map, and the Paddock, which allows you to change out your team. Edit your team so that your four monsters with the highest Attack stat are in your Main Party. Return to the Plains and catch the following:
When you capture a Komodo/Slime/Wing Slime check its “Known Talents”. If it doesn’t have the necessary talent, click on its picture and select “Dismiss Multiple” to get rid of it. Dismissing the monster will yield a random stat seed, which will be helpful later on. Additionally, clearing your Monster Depot of unnecessary duplicates will increase your chances of successfully scouting the monsters you’re looking for. Continue this process until you have 4x Komodos with Attack Boost I and a combined 4x Slimes/Wing Slimes with Agility Boost I. Put the 4x Komodos into your main party and the 4x Slimes/Wing Slimes into your Reserve. Level the Komodos up to Level 5 and teach them the “Heal” skill. This should take 30-45 minutes.

130 – ENDOR COLOSSEUM – After capturing these monsters, take on Category G in the Endor Colosseum. A simple guide for this challenge can be found here:

https://game8.co/games/DQM-Dark-Prince/archives/436942

Completing Endor Colosseum Category G will unlock Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym in the Paddock area. Be sure to purchase this DLC if you have not already done so. You can refresh the gym list up to three times per day. Refresh the list until you get a One-Star Dungeon for “Rank G” or “Dragon”. Enter the dungeon with your team of 4x Komodos. Gradually progress through the dungeon, leveling your Komodos to Level 14-17 before taking on the final boss after the third floor. This should take 30-45 minutes. Be sure to capture a Spitzfire and Flython as you progress through the dungeon. Defeat the end boss to complete the gym.

140 – CIRCLE OF CONQUEST – LOWER ECHELON – Return to Endor Colosseum and defeat Category F. Progress through the storyline in the Circle of Conquest – Lower Echelon. Your team of Level 14-17 Komodos should make quick work of any enemy you face. When you reach the Maulosseum take on Category G of the Battle Arena. Completing this Arena will unlock SYNTHESIS at the Altar of Amalgamation. This should take 20-30 minutes.

150 – CIRCLE OF TEMPER – LOWER ECHELON – Step into the Circle of Temper and capture a She-Slime. They can be found during any season but only when the weather is Sunny. She-Slime has a very powerful Talent, Spicy Slasher, which will be needed on your final Komodo build. This should take 10-15 minutes.

SECTION 200 – The Synthesis Tree
210 – INITIAL SYNTHESIS – Before progressing, complete the following synthesis:
  • Komodo #1 + She-Slime #1 -> Komodo #5 (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost I / Defender)
The purpose of this synthesis is to transfer the powerful talent Spicy Slasher to one of your Komodos.
  • Komodo #2 + Spitzfire #1 -> Komodo #6 (Attack Boost I / Defender / Dragonheart)
  • Slime/W. Slime #1 + Flython #1 -> Small Fry #1 (Agility Boost I / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)

The purpose of these synthesis is to increase the Size of your monsters. Increasing the size of them now will make it easier to synthesize a Large Monster at the very end. Additionally, turning your Slimes/Wing Slimes into Small Fries will make them available for “Dragon” Gyms.

https://game8.co/games/DQM-Dark-Prince/archives/435994

220 – SYNTHESIS ROUND 2: BOOSTING SIZE – Re-run the One-Star “Rank G” or “Dragon” dungeons four more times. Each time, capture a Spitzfire and a Flython to synthesize with a natural Komodo or Slime/Wing Slime. Rotate the members of your Main Party between Komodos and Small Fries so they all level evenly. After boosting the size of your eight initial monsters, save one Spitzfire and Flython in your Monster Depot for later. This should take 90-120 minutes.

ONE-STAR GYM RUN #2
  • Komodo #3 + Spitzfire #2 -> Komodo #7 (Attack Boost I / Defender / Dragonheart)
  • Slime/W. Slime #2 + Flython #2 -> Small Fry #2 (Agility Boost I / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)
ONE-STAR GYM RUN #3
  • Komodo #4 + Spitzfire #3 -> Komodo #8 (Attack Boost I / Defender / Dragonheart)
  • Slime/W. Slime #3 + Flython #3 -> Small Fry #3 (Agility Boost I / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)
ONE-STAR GYM RUN #4
  • Komodo #5 + Spitzfire #4 -> Komodo #9 (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost I / Defender)

230 – SYNTHESIS ROUND 3: ATTACK/AGILITY BOOST II – If necessary, complete another Gym Run to ensure all of your primary monsters are Level 17+. On each of your four Komodos, allocate 50 Talent Points to Attack Boost I. On each of your four Small Fries, allocate 50 Talent Points to Agility Boost I. Then, complete the following synthesis. This should take 20-30 minutes.

ONE-STAR GYM RUN #6
  • Level all Komodos and Small Fries to Level 17+
  • Komodo #6 + Komodo #7 -> Komodo #10 (Attack Boost II / Defender / Dragonheart)
  • Komodo #8 + Komodo #9 -> Komodo #11 (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost II / Defender)
  • Small Fry #1 + Small Fry #2 -> Small Fry #5 (Agility Boost II / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)
  • Small Fry #3 + Small Fry #4 -> Small Fry #6 (Agility Boost II / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)
240 – SYNTHESIS ROUND 4: ATTACK/AGILITY BOOST III – Put your two Komodos and two Small Fries in your Main Party. Complete another Gym Run to ensure your full team is Level 17+. On each of your two Komodos, allocate 100 Talent Points to Attack Boost II. On each of your two Small Fries, allocate 100 Talent Points to Agility Boost II. Use Metal Slimecards to level Spitzfire #5 and Flython #5 up to Level 17+. Then, complete the following synthesis. This should take 20-30 minutes.

ONE-STAR GYM RUN #7
  • Level 2x Komodos and 2x Small Fries to Level 17+
  • Komodo #10 + Komodo #11 -> Komodo #12 (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost III / Defender)
  • Small Fry #5 + Small Fry #6 -> Small Fry #7 (Agility Boost III / Dragonheart / Toxicologist)
  • Spitzfire #5 + Flython #5 -> Spitzfire #6 (Dragonheart / Toxicologist / ???)
250 – SYNTHESIS ROUND 5: ATTACK/AGILITY BOOST IV – Put Komodo #12 and Small Fry #7 in your Main Party. If you’re running a “Dragon” One-Star Dungeon, add Spitzfire #6 to your Main Party. If you’re running a “Rank G” One-Star Dungeon, add your two most powerful G-Rank monsters to Main Party. Complete another Gym Run to ensure your full team is Level 17+. On Komodo #12 allocate 200 Talent Points to Attack Boost III. On Small Fry #7 allocate 200 Talent Points to Agility Boost III. Then, complete the following synthesis. This should take 20-30 minutes.

ONE-STAR GYM RUN #8
  • Level Komodo and Small Fry to Level 17+
  • Komodo #12 + Small Fry #7 -> Komodo #13 (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost IV / Agility Boost IV)
260 – SYNTHESIS ROUND 6: MAKING LARGE – Komodo #13 now has the perfect Talent Set – Spicy Slasher, Attack Boost IV, Agility Boost IV – and lots of talent points to spend. Run the One-Star Gym one more time to raise your Komodo’s level to 17+. After completing the dungeon, feed your Komodo Upsizing Seeds until it reaches Size 49. These can be found in the chests by the staircase at the Altar of Amalgamation. Then, complete the following synthesis. This should take 20-30 minutes.

ONE-STAR GYM RUN #9
  • Level Komodo to Level 17+
  • Feed Komodo Upsizing Seeds
  • Komodo #13 [SMALL] + Spitzfire #5 [LARGE] -> Komodo #14 [LARGE] (Spicy Slasher / Attack Boost IV / Agility Boost IV)
SECTION 300 – Final Build
310 – SEEDS – You now have a Large Komodo with the perfect Talent Set. The next step is it feed it all the seeds of Life/Magic/Strength/Resilience/Agility/Skill you’ve collected so far:
  • Seed of Life – Raises HP by +3
  • Super Seed of Life – Raises HP by +10
  • Seed of Magic – Raises MP by +3
  • Super Seed of Magic – Raises MP by +10
  • Seed of Strength – Raises Attack by +3
  • Super Seed of Strength – Raises Attack by +10
  • Seed of Resilience – Raises Defense by +3
  • Super Seed of Resilience – Raises Defense by +10
  • Seed of Agility – Raises Agility by +3
  • Super Seed of Agility – Raises Agility by +10
  • Seed of Skill – Adds +3 Talent Points
  • Super Seed of Skill – Adds +10 Talent Points

320 – TALENTS – Here’s the order that I recommend you allocation your Talent Points:
  • 200 TP into Attack Boost IV – +200 Attack
  • 20 TP into Spicy Slasher – Dragon Slash
  • 100 TP into Agility Boost IV – +86 Agility
  • 100 TP into Spicy Slasher – +12 Attack, Flamesplitter
  • 100 TP into Agility Boost IV – +114 Agility

330 –STRATEGY – Your Killer Komodo will hit hard and fast, attacking 1-3 times in a row and killing nearly everything in one shot. At Level 20 it learns Strong Starter, which increases its damage by 20% for the first three rounds of combat. At Level 40 it learns Ultra Crazy Frizzer, which makes your Flamesplitter attack remarkable devastating.

Refresh the gym list until you get a Two-Star Dungeon for “Rank G” or “Dragon”. Your Komodo should be strong/quick enough to kill the Drag Racers found on the first floor of this dungeon using the Dragon Slash skill. These battles are difficult, but yield massive XP gains. Pair your Komodo with any two monsters of your choice and you should be able to cruise through the gym with ease. Level your monsters as much as you wish then return to the main storyline. You now have an unstoppable Komodo that can carry you through most of the game!

Some of the later bosses are not easy. Try it out and see what you think!

290 min - 435 min (ca 5,25h - 7,25h) is quite a lot of time to spend on a large Komodo. Not sure if it is worth it in the long run, as far as i can tell for now, the main story is quite easy and you never really get into any dicy situations. Atleast not until the upper echelons, which I haven't finished yet, no idea if it gets more challenging later on.
