SECTION 100 – Overview
110 – INTRODUCTION – Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym Is a series of eight dungeons accessible by talking with Coach Joe in the Paddocks in Terrestria. It is available after you purchase the DLC and clear Category G in the Endor Colosseum.

120 – DUNGEON SELECTION – Each dungeon has a difficulty level – One-Star through Five-Star – and has specific entry requirements. You are only allowed to bring a main party of four monsters, all of which much meet the entry requirements. The possible entry requirements include:

RANK:
  • Rank G
  • Rank F
  • Rank E
  • Rank D
  • Rank C
  • Rank B
  • Rank A
  • Rank S
  • Rank X
FAMILY:
  • Slime
  • Dragon
  • Nature
  • Beast
  • Material
  • Demon
  • Undead

You can Refresh the gym list once per day, which is useful if you’re trying to find a dungeon of the appropriate difficulty level that fits your team.

130 – DUNGEON PROGRESSION – Each dungeon consists of a set number of floors which must be completed before fighting the final boss. The number of floors is determined by the dungeon difficulty level:
  • One-Star – 3x Floors + Boss Floor
  • Two-Star – 3x Floors + Boss Floor
  • Three-Star – 5x Floors + Boss Floor
  • Four-Star – 8x Floors + Boss Floor
  • Five-Star – 10x Floors + Boss Floor
Each floor has numerous randomly generated rooms that change every time you attempt a dungeon run. To progress to the next floor you first need to acquire the Dungeon Key, which can be collected by defeating the monster with the purple key floating above its head. This will unlock the Dungeon Portal, which then transports you to the next floor. Finding the key and the portal often requires carefully exploring several rooms on each floor.

140 – ITEMS – Each monster on your team is allowed to have one Accessory equipped upon entry. However, no other items are allowed in your inventory when you enter the dungeon. Throughout the dungeon you will acquire items from bags and chests. You can use these items while traversing or keep them after completing the dungeon. However, if you exit the dungeon before defeating the final boss all of these found items will be discarded.

Defeated monsters generally don’t drop items or gold in these dungeons. The notable exceptions are “chest imitators” – Cannibox and Mimics – that drop valuable Slime Cards when you defeat them in battle. Additionally, all Boss Battles provide either a Talent Scroll or Gold (see the details below).

150 – MONSTERS – The selection of monsters that you encounter is set by the dungeon difficulty level. The specific monster lists are detailed in the sections below. You can capture monsters in these dungeons (excluding the Boss Monsters) using the same Scouting mechanics as elsewhere in the game.

160 – BOSS BATTLE – At the end of each dungeon you will fight a difficult boss battle. If you win, you will be given an Accessory (if it’s your first victory at that difficulty level) or Slime Cards (for all subsequent victories at that difficulty level). The rewards include the following:

FIRST VICTORY
  • One-Star – Strength Ring
  • Two-Star – Tough Guy Tattoo
  • Three-Star – Dancer’s Ring
  • Four-Star – Witch’s Brooch
  • Five-Star – Goddess Ring

SUBSEQUENT VICTORY

  • One-Star – 4x Metal Slimecards (8K EXP Total)
  • Two-Star – 8x Metal Slimecards (16K EXP Total)
  • Three-Star – 4x Liquid Metal Slimecards (40K EXP Total)
  • Four-Star – 8x Liquid Metal Slimecards (80K EXP Total)
  • Five-Star – 8x Metal King Slimecards (560K EXP Total)

170 – STRATEGY – With limited items and no reserves, you’ll need to carefully manage the HP and MP of your Main Party leading up to the final battle. I strongly recommend bringing monsters with healing abilities, either through Healing Spells or with the Auto-Restora trait. On random floors you’ll find a blue cube that when activated fully restores the HP and MP of your team. Take advantage of these!

180 – PURPOSE – Why bother to run the Coach Joe’s Gyms? There are four specific reasons to take on these dungeons:
  • Early-Game EXP – The One-Star and Two-Star Dungeons are great sources of Experience in the early game. You can farm them repeatedly before moving forward in the storyline.
  • Early-Game Monsters – There are a few monsters that you can scout in these dungeons that are very valuable in the early game. Notable, you can recruit a Large-sized Spitzfire or Flython in the One-Star dungeon, which can be useful when synthesizing large monsters early on.
  • Late-Game Items – Although most of the items found in these dungeons are not very useful, the Bonus Balls and Bumper Bonus Balls that you find are extremely valuable when leveling end-game teams.
  • Late-Game Monsters – In the Post-Game when you’re trying to complete the Monsterpedia these dungeons are very helpful because they include a unique mix of monsters not typically available in the other levels in the game.
SECTION 200 – One-Star Workouts
210 – OVERVIEW

The One-Star Gym can be easily tackled by a low-level team very early in the game. I recommend starting this gym with four level 5-10 monsters with the Heal skill. Early-game examples include Komodo (Dragon), Slime (Slime), Khalamari Kid (Nature), and Stump Chump (Undead). This dungeon yields considerably more XP than early Lower Echelon levels, so I recommend using it to grind levels prior to progressing the storyline. In particular, Spitzfire typically spawns on the third floor of this dungeon and has a great XP yield if your team can defeat it. Additionally, Metal Slimes provide outstanding XP gains but have high speed, like to flee, and are immune to elemental damage, so defeating them in battle is no easy task. I recommend leveling your team to level 15-20 before moving to the Boss Floor.
  • Floors – 3x Floors + Boss Floor
  • Monsters - Level ~10
  • Experience – 100-400 EXP/Battle

SECTION 300 – Two-Star Workouts
310 – OVERVIEW

The Two-Star Gym is substantially harder than the One-Star Gym due to the presence of numerous Drag Racers on the First Floor. This large monster can attack multiple times per turn and can easily wipe out an unprepared team. However, this dungeon provides significantly more XP than the previous dungeon, so make the jump as soon as you’re able. Some Treasure Boxes are actually Canniboxes in disguise. They drop Metal Slimecards as a reward when defeated in battle. Metal Slimes also appear in these dungeons and provide substantial XP gains for your team if defeated.
