May I introduce you all to the Combine Engineer. This is a Combine Soldier that specializes in solving problems. Not problems like, "What is beauty" because the would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. This combine solves practical problems. Equipped with a smart gun, force barricade, and deployable turret, the Combine Engineer is well equipped to solve any number of problems that come its way.

The Combine Engineer carries the turret and barricade with them until an enemy is spotted, at which point they will begin creating their engineer nest starting with the turret and finishing with the barricade. The barricade does well in protecting the engineer, the turret, and anything else behind it. Unlike other energy shield generators, this is hard cover. Once created is will not go away until the barricade is destroyed. Given this power, the Combine Engineer is only able to hold and deploy one of them.

The next most important part of the Combine Engineer's arsenal is their personal defense weapon, the Combine Smart gun. It fires small rockets that, when in proximity to an enemy, track to their location to deliver damage. At extreme ranges these tend to loose effectiveness but at medium and short range, the Combine Smart gun is powerful. The projectile seems similar to those used in the Hive Hand of the Alien Grunts that attacked Black Mesa, leading some to wonder if these are actually synth hive projectiles instead of rockets.

Features of this NPC include:
  • Weapon: Combine Smart gun
  • Destructible energy barricade
  • Deployable turret
  • Animated equipment deployment

Feel free to offer feedback and suggestions. Such things help me with future development of addons. This is was my first attempt making a custom projectile weapon. Plenty more ideas were spawned from the success of this concept.

can the engineer fix sheilds scanners and anything thats tech?

Yeah, they get stuck and just stand in front of it most of the time.

@meierhans If it is still breaking navigation, yeah I can look into that. VJ base npcs seem to be fine. Unsure why base ones are having problems with it.

Love this NPC, as I do all the other ones you released. Such quality work! Keep on goin!

I use it to replace (by chance) regular combine soldiers, and this works like a charme. Yet, the problem @Nateuddd mentioned also applies for me. Possible NPCs are able to walk trough the barricade, but they won´t do. Could you make it despawn after 60 sec´s, so it does not break maps?
