Description
T2-SE-A1 Tanker Fort Mercer - 1:1 Scale - 523ft long - Near full interior!

Fort Mercer; A History

SS Fort Mercer was a T2-SE-A1 tanker built by Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in Chester, Pennsylvania, and launched on October 2, 1945. With World War II ending in August 1945, the ship never saw wartime service. It was owned and operated by the Trinidad Corporation of New York. On February 18, 1952, while carrying kerosene and fuel oil, Fort Mercer was caught in a severe gale 30 miles east of Chatham, Massachusetts. Battling 68-foot waves, the ship cracked and eventually broke in two. Nine crew members remained on the bow, while 34 were on the stern, which retained power and radio contact.

The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched vessels Eastwind and Unimak from near Nantucket, along with Yakutat and Acushnet, which rescued four men from the bow. Tragically, five crewmen perished as the bow sank. The stern, still afloat, was towed to Newport, Rhode Island, fitted with a new bow, and rechristened San Jacinto. It was later rebuilt again in 1964 as Pasadena, which was partially scrapped in 1983. - In the same storm, T2 tanker SS Pendleton also broke apart 20 miles away. A daring Coast Guard rescue saved 32 of the 33 men from its stern.

What can you expect from this Model?

1. A detailed, meticulously researched model, with details i found out that even surprised me

2. A near-full, accurate as possible interior, full engine room, steering gear, and even spaces that haven't had photos!

3. Roleplay-ability - One example, If your water reaches the generator room intake, then your entire power will go out. Or if the ship breaks in half, bow will lose power, flicker off, and sink.

4. Accurate "Sinking" Ship will snap in two if the waves are high enough. go and ind out for yourself. ;)

5. And so, so much more!

Sidenotes

Stern probably wont fully sink with the lever. i recommend to use explosives if you want that effect

how long does it take once you turn up the flood leaver to cause it to take the water to fill up and cause the power to go out

The stern section flood lever is in the steam turbine room, the big room below the steam control panels. The lever is hidden out of view on some red machinery.
Hope the's okay to say thelastmarch2.0

Imagine my surprise when I found the manual sink key. I was touring the ship prior to changing the weather when I found a key in the radio room. I 'thought' it would bring power to the equipment... well, the lights flickered off, the heaters went dead, and suddenly the deck was shifting more than it should've.:wowsfishpalm:

A great build always brings great memories, lol!

What seed would you recommend to use on this?

Ah a shame - I was amused by the sheer scale of the oil spill created when it spllt - would be interesting to try and do a full cargo run with it to see when things went....awkward
