Description
Comet Cars are a series of passenger railcars used in North America for intercity and commuter services. First designed by Pullman-Standard in 1970 for locomotive hauled railcars. The moniker has been adopted by NJ Transit for all non-powered single level commuter coaches and have been produced by varying manufactors.

Comet 1B coaches in this mod are actually former Arrow I EMU cars that were rebuilt by NJ Transit into unpowered coaches in 1988. They were sold and then subsquently remodelled by Caltrans for use on the San Joaquin. This remodel included removing seats, widening doors, adding a restroom, workstations, and plating over cab windows.

Comet II coaches and cabs were built by Bombardier who acquired the rights to the design from Pullman-Standard. The first order was built in 1982 for NJ Transit. These cars were remodelled between 1999-2003. Metro-North and SEPTA also purchased comet IIs (not to be confused with Metro-North's similar body Shoreliner coaches). NJ transit no longer runs comet II cab cars as cab units.

Comet IV trailers were built by Bombardier in 1996. These units were similar to Comet IIIs except that they lacked a door near the cab. After taking the Comet V order, NJ Transit no longer runs Comet IVs as cab units.

Comet V trailers and Cabs were built Alstom between 2002-2004, intend to replace the Comet I & Comet IIs; they endedup replacing NJT's fleet of Comet I's and Comet III's instead. They are equiped with Postitive Train Stop system (PTS). 230 were delivered to NJ Transit, with 30 of those being for Metro-North Railroad, who reimbursed NJ Transit for the cars.
