Please read the description below and/or watch the tutorial video

Most important changes:

Click twice on the button for the regular engine telegraph and the Engine Control Mod will appear left to the vanilla engine telegraph. A third click will disable both of them at once.

The Engine Control Mod gauge is attached to the left side of the original engine telegraph. You can left click and drag the engine telegraph and move it at any place you like.
If you have placed it previously at the left on your screen the Engine Control Mod is possibly outside the visible area and you have to drag the engine telegraph to the right.

The clutch wheel button bug is still in this version. So if you click on one of the shaft buttons below the dial WAIT FOR THE WHEEL ANIMATION TO BE FINISHED before you hide the UI!

If the button breaks: Quit to Menu, reload save game, then set the desired shaft state.
This mod allows to give direct speed order or RPM instead of gear order.
To change between RPM or Speed just right click on the gauge.
The precision is directly related to the presence of an engineer assigned to the Engine Station which otherwise will have a constant error of +/- 1 knots.

When using diesel engine, the minimum RPM selectable will be 100, while when controlling speed it cannot go slower than anything that requires less than 100RPM (which is 3kn forward and 2knots backward).

It is possible to detach one of the two shafts in order to increase turn rate which works even with the default gear selection mechanism.

Speed control automatically deactivate itself when docking (which also hides the control), manually selecting a gear or selects an incompatible time compression.

While RPM control has no limit, when controlling speed this mod works with the following time compressions:
  • First person view => up to 12X
  • Third person view => up to 144X
  • Orbit view => up to 48X
  • Map view => up to 12X
Transition works fine, except when using 48x in orbit view and transiting to third person view, there is some sort of bug where for a brief moment the compression is quite higher than expected

This mod does not perform any sort of speed limit on the boat but rather implements a process control (PID) which will do its best to maintain the setpoint.

Thanks mate!

@Flat Stanley Yep. The mod just gives you a bit more control over the overall speed of your boat. My favorite are the rpm settings to control speed ;)

Thanks, will give it a try then. I assume that the use of the games controls are still needed to surface and dive the boat?

@Flat Stanley Fuel consumption is fixed. Should work as expected.

Has the issue of not using diesel fuel been resolved?

Thanks for the mod and for the tutorial video!
Awesome, should be used as a template for any tutorial out there.
Much appreciated!

I have more info regarding the bug, when going up to 140x time compression in orbit view the speed goes to 4km/h when on the charging batteries setting.

I think I spotted a bug with this mod, I used the vanilla engine control wheel to set my sub to diesel engines and to stop and charge batteries. It normally works fine -- with the exception being the engines not visibly running to charge the batteries compared to vanilla, but that's a cosmetic change.

Anyway when I set the time compression to x48 in orbit view (while surfaced, not sure if it appears when decks awash or using a snorkel submerged) the sub speeds up to around 7.5km/h, this is a different speed to vanilla as with speed 1 vanilla it hovers around 9.5km/h surfaced. When using the same time compression setting in section view the bug does not appear.
