Description
This mod is back to being a work in progress. I'll update the description properly when I find a satisfactory stopping place. The old description is below for a general overview.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A personal rework of Maxwell. The general idea is simplicity: simplified journal with cooldown instead of being fueled, simplified health and damage on puppets.

This rework is a lot simpler to play than to explain in words:

Maxwell's DST Puppets have, effectively, a double-durability mechanism, similar to Hamlet's Mant Mask: on the one hand they have their 75 health, and on the other hand they have an "obliviate" timer, with 2 minutes for the Duelists. This double-durability mechanism is convoluted enough. The rework is that the puppets will have one single durability which is their health: they slowly lose health over time, making them last exactly as long as vanilla, provided that they're not taking damage.

The increment of max damage-per-hit has also been removed for simplicity, and the max damage-per-hit is down to 1. The duration of the two types of puppets are leveled for simplicity at 120 seconds. And the puppet worker will enjoy the same max damage-per-hit as the duelist, nor will the shadow worker run away in presence of danger. They will grow paler as they weaken. Their collision is now shadow, because they are shadow.

The journal will now have a cooldown instead of being fueled. Because the journal is powerful enough to absorb the ambient nightmare fuel in the Constant. The cooldown last exactly long enough to have two puppets at the same time with one journal. Different journals will have different cooldowns.

The recipe is now 1 Shadow Atrium + 3 Papyrus + 100 Sanity. The 100 Sanity because it's about splitting your mind not your limbs. My guess that Klei felt a bit timid as regards the recipe for the journal when they reworked Maxwell, and wanted to respect the legacy recipe, even though sanity was already available as a recipe ingredient at the time. Holding the journal itself will now cost 5% of your sanity because it is powerful dark magic and also because spamming is boring.

The two spells now cost one single sanity. The duration for both the pillars and the panic are leveled at 20 seconds for simplicity, whether it's a boss or a spider. With the journal having a cooldown instead of being fueled by valuable nightmare fuel, this means you can have a lot more fun with the spells.

Maxwell will no longer spawn with Nightmare Fuel. But he will start with a Magician's Hat, in which he will find the very rabbit that he was magicking when he got sucked into the constant.

SECOND SERIES OF CHANGES

The sanity penalty for both puppets are raised from 15% to 20%, a fair compensation for the the buff on their max-damage-per-hit.

Maxwell's Shadow Puppets, being made of shadow, are now sensible to the Nighmare Cycle. Shadow Protector's base damage and the Shadow Worker's work efficiency will get a 1.25x multiplier during the Warn and Dawn phases, and a 1.5x multiplier during the wild phase. A reasonable buff, considering how the ruins have never been easy on Maxwell in any phase of his adaptation from DS to DST.

The entire Shadows Level mechanic has been removed. It is a mechanic that I really don't like because of how it forces you into just sitting there, idling, all dolled up in your fancy skins. The micromanagement on your equipment, and, if you're really getting serious, the obscure exploits of swapping equippables to maximize damage, are hardly more interesting. In compensation, the base damage has been increased from 20 to 34, with 51 for the Wild Phase, and 42.5 for the two transition phases.

Maxwell's health has been increased from 75 to 90. In DS, 75 was chosen as the half of Wilson's health. If you compared the healths on the different creatures of the Constant, it makes little sense that Maxwell should have this tormented number as his health. And since DST is a lot more combat-heavy than DS, this buff feels reasonable.

This is the Starving Floor Maxwell adapted for Survival.

the mod is very good, but I would decrease the shadow flame damage and reduce sanity regeneration

It's really done quite well! However, several problems were still discovered. For instance, the teleportation picture of the battle movie character being attacked was not played correctly. The shadow flames seem a bit too strong. The damage of ten flames is too high, and they don't consume sanity either. This problem also exists with the shadow pillar. Besides, the journal only consumes 5%, which is a bit low. At least it should be above 8%. Overall, it's an excellent character reset. I sincerely look forward to your next work.
