It appears the universe has a sense of humor, and I am once again the punchline. At 48 years old, having successfully evaded pirates, survived a deserted island, and rekindled my life in England, I find myself in a situation so peculiar it would baffle even the most imaginative authors.

This time, I have not been shipwrecked but shipplaced—unceremoniously deposited on a planet so alien it makes my previous exile seem like a leisurely holiday. Gone are my loyal companions: my trusty dog and dear Friday, left behind as I was bundled off this interstellar ark. What I do have, however, is experience—and a modest agricultural arsenal of seeds, including barley, coconuts, and the noble English fir.

The flora here looks like something out of a fever dream. The fauna, even more so. But as bewildered as I am, I find myself oddly invigorated by the promise of discovery. If my previous adventures taught me anything, it’s that the world—or in this case, worlds—often hide a peculiar kind of beauty beneath their chaos.

And so, I begin again: a lone optimist armed with humor, hope, and a slightly battered journal. What could possibly go wrong?
