Unit Categories Recolored

Description
Unit category recolor? Wasn't there such mod already?

There is. But let me elaborate.

What?
This mod does exactly what is stated in it's name - colors the unit category icons.
Obviously, this mod is HEAVILY inspired by a ATTILA - Unit Category Re-Color mod made by Adam Octorachmadi.

Why?
I am a big fan of the idea, presented by an aforementioned mod, but I have some criticism towards the mod itself.
  • Firstly, when using original marker size during the battle there is too little of a discrepancy between units of different armies, which sometimes leads to an unpleasant surprises.
  • Secondly, when using original marker size you have no wavering visibility, which makes it much more difficult to monitor unit's morale.
  • Thirdly, when using double-sized markers it is obvious that they were made using icons of lower resolution.
  • Fourthly, the 80%-transparent double-sized icons doesn't look right to me, considering that the whole idea of a mod is a unit category icon coloring.
  • And lastly - for some reason the color scheme of an original mod is slightly off of the Skidvar's Coloured Unit Cards for Vanilla Units mod made by a Skidvar, so it was bugging me for quite some time.

How
And so I've decided to make my own category recolor based on the following rules:
  1. The color scheme should match the scheme of the Skidvar's Coloured Unit Cards for Vanilla Units mod.
  2. The icon size should be slightly reduced to make it less obstructive and more readable during battles.
  3. The double-sized icons should be of a higher resoluion and duplicate the base-sized icon's style.

Additional information
  • The current version only covers icons from the vanilla game (more precisely - from the data.pack file), so it isn't fully compatible with any overhauls or unit mods that uses additional unit category icons, but to make them compatible you can either color them yourself or ask me to color them.
  • As an addition to the gallery examples, a small example of a unit wavering animation:

           After

    Credits
    - Althought no resources were used from the mod mentioned below, the credit for the idea of the mod goes to Adam Octorachmadi with his ATTILA - Unit Category Re-Color mod.

what @Ziraellie was trying to say is the enemy has the same color as you, and when many units clash it makes it very hard to distinguish which ones are your units

great mod, I would strongly advise to not have allied\player unit markers colored in red: I would have enemy units have their own, separate color scheme, red and similar colors, and player units green\blue variations

@변하은 Not quite sure what do you mean. I think, there might be a misunderstanding, this mod ONLY changes the unit category icons (a.k.a. unit markers in the game settings). The unit card background color on the screenshots - the result of work of a Skidvar's Coloured Unit Cards for Vanilla Units mod. I didn't reimplement the unit card backround coloring. In other words - the full extent of changes this mod implements is displayed on the thumbnail image.
If i misunderstod your question - please correct me and clarify your request once again.

sir Can you upload a version with only the unit card colors removed?

@Zireaellie Well, sorry that such a problem arised for you. One of the goals of this is mod is to make colored category icons (its predecessor) more readable. And I thought that I've did it sufficiently (at least, i can distinguish units of different armies most of the time). If you would like to give this mod a second chance, I would recommend to play a little with the marker size setting in the "Game settings" menu, making marker bigger will make the frame bigger as well (from 2 up to 4px). Not sure if it is possible to make it better in any other way; making icons even smaller makes them look bad imo.

You cant figure out which units are yours.

Thanks

@Narikyou, identically to how it affects yours. This mod recolors category icons itself (same as the predecessor in that regard), so it will affect any units identically. Though, they will have different frame around colored icons (yours is yellow, enemies is red, allies is blue). Obviously, it will make it harder to distinguish your own units from enemies, but not drastically thanks to the frame.
Thanks for the question, gave me an idea what I should add to the mod's gallery.

How will this affect friend or foe units?

@Garviel Loken, a slightly belated response, but if you want to use my assets, there is a link to the archive with them in this discussion . The mod itself is a blatantly simple image-editing work, so I guess it wouldn't be hard to re-implement it in Rome 2.
