Description
16th Note
A three hour project designed to add combat and ambient music to Garry's Mod gameplay, similar to Nombat. However, Nombat is rather old and the process to creating music with the addon is time consuming and discouraging for most inexperienced with LUA. This addon aims to be a better alternative.

You can find this addon on Github with its source code: https://github.com/IcyStarFrost/16thnote

Try out the addon with the GTFO ost mod for 16th Note: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3404189403

Frostpunk ost mod is also available for ambient only music: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3409035643

All settings are located in the spawnmenu within Utilities>16th Note

NOTE: This does NOT come with any music! Download 16th Note music addons or Nombat music packs for this to function!

What does "16th Note" have over Nombat?
16th Note takes what Nombat does and improves upon it. Such as the following:

  • Massively improves user experience when it comes to creating music addons
  • Internal code is neater (imo)
  • You are not forced to have both ambient and combat tracks in an addon. You can have only either ambient or combat if you desire. (If you deem this an improvement)
  • 1/17/2025: You are able to disable ambient/combat music individually for music packs in game
  • 1/21/2025: You are able to "solo" a pack where every other pack will not play except for the solo pack.
  • Neat "Currently Playing" popup
  • 4/16/2025: PVP now triggers combat music
  • 5/7/2025: New lyric system inspired by Limbus Company

Nombat Support
Because there are a plentiful amount of Nombat music packs in the workshop, it would be odd to throw away music pack options because a player would use 16th Note over Nombat so support with Nombat music packs was added.

All you have to do to utilize the support is to simply download any Nombat music pack and 16th Note will automatically integrate it into 16th Note's system.

This does NOT mean you can have both 16th Note and the actual Nombat addon installed. A conflict will occur so choose one or the other.

Creating 16th Note Based Addons
16th Note features a very simple method of creating ambient/combat music addons. The method boils down to simply placing .mp3 files in either an ambient or combat folder and the addon handles the rest.

For the following guide, I will be using GTFO soundtrack.

Quick Guide
For experienced users, this is the filepath to add music to 16th note:
{ADDONNAME}/sound/16thnote/{UNIQUE PACK NAME}/ambient AND combat/{MP3 files in either folder}

Note: AND means create a folder named ambient and another named combat. {UNIQUE PACK NAME} is what the spawnmenu will reflect when disabling packs.

Step by Step Guide

1/17/2025: Steam removed the ability to add images in workshop descriptions. Watch the second video in the gallery above to learn how to create a 16th note music addon step by step.

If an addon icon is needed, use this template icon if you wish.

I noticed someone put in the effort to isolate the icons and text in the template so I decided to provide a transparent version for those who wish to use that instead.

@Sorell Hey, Sorell, are you ok if i make my own fork from this addon? There's some stuff i'd like to add by myself beyond just some fixes so yeah.

Amazing addon. I've been using it ever since I found it like, a month or something ago? I was just wondering if you'd make it so the music tracks reset after swapping. Like if you have Loop Tracks on, they'd reset like they loop, but when they'd do it when ambience swaps to combat and vice versa. When you feel like updating it, of course.

is it possible instead to maybe have an option to avoid skipping ?
when you feel like updating i mean.
Sorell  [author] 2 Aug @ 4:05pm
although it probably could be improved to automatically skip when there is actually silence or fading. That's for another time. I don't have the time or motivation to update the addon
Sorell  [author] 2 Aug @ 4:02pm
They don't skip randomly. It starts the next song after the current song is 95% of the way through to compensate for any silence near the end

Any idea why songs don't seem to play fully and randomly skip ?

Yeah, it happens if you use F1 (persistent) spawn menu

if you open the music picker after searching for the 16th note settings without closing the spawn menu it bricks the game and you cant close the spawn menu or the 16th note music picker
