Fallen Arborvale Bastion

Description

The Arborvale Bastion stands proudly atop a small mountain, set in the heart of a peaceful and fertile valley. This valley, renowned for its nutrient-rich soil, has been a prime location for agriculture. To maximize the land available for farming, many structures were built modestly, saving resources for the fields. The Bastion itself served as a vital outpost, providing an excellent vantage point to oversee and protect the vast green plains.

At the heart of the Bastion rises a towering spire, imbued with a mystical energy drawn directly from the earth. This energy not only fueled the tower's defenses—allowing it to unleash devastating magical projectiles from its peak—but also enhanced the range and potency of the Bastion’s siege weaponry. Arborvale thrived under this balance of natural abundance and arcane power.

But such power could not go unnoticed. A coven of witches, drawn by the magical aura of the tower and the valley’s bountiful resources, set their sights on the Bastion. Their assault was as calculated as it was ruthless, catching the Arborvale knights off guard. Amid the chaos, the witches performed a dark ritual that shook the earth to its core. The ground around the tower fractured violently, revealing a deep chasm filled with toxic fumes, twisted vegetation, and eerie, pulsating energy. Is that the source of the tower's energy?

Shortly after the earth split open, massive, toxic green vines erupted from the ground, hurling stones into the air and tearing through nearby walls and buildings.

The once-proud Arborvale Bastion now lies freshly in ruins, its downfall a recent and vivid scar upon the valley. Scattered pieces of armor near the entrance tell the tale of desperate knights, some falling in battle while others fled in the chaos. With the remaining knights in retreat, it falls to the Hunters to stop the witches before the rift expands further, threatening to consume the entire valley. The fate of Arborvale—and perhaps the surrounding lands—rests in their hands.

Additional Info
With this map, I wanted to create something much smaller compared to my previous map "Lost Temple". The increase in the structure limit from 2,000 to 2,500 gave me more opportunities to add additional details.

My goal with this map was to create a setting that fits the "Castle Catastrophe" theme. To achieve this, I first researched different types of castles. There are many variations to choose from, such as keeps, holds, and castles, but I decided to go with the design of a bastion. A bastion is a type of fortification that focuses on defensive strength and strategic positioning, rather than serving as a residence.
