Wurrow, the Cavernous

Wormy — At home in the dark
Wurrow is a Depth Worm, and by nature, accustomed to the dark and the caves. He is considered a monster so Pigmen, Bunnymen and Catcoons will be hostile. He doesn't have sanity drain while in the caves nor from darkness, but the natural light of the sun causes Wurrow to lose 7.5 Sanity/minute during daytime. He also doesn't lose Sanity when using a wormhole to teleport, or while near Depth Worms and Greater Depth Worms.

Wurrow’s sharp dentures and insatiable palate enable him to stomach almost any food, even monster food. However, he is unable to consume goodies and generics (honey, royal jelly, glommers gloop) as they get stuck in his many teeth.
  • With a stomach made of worminess iron, he can eat monster foods as well as raw meats.
  • He will not suffer the negative effects of Lesser Glow Berries, Glow Berries, and Lichen.
  • His favorite food is Unagi; he gains an additional 15 Hunger from eating them.
Wurrow’s lure provides light based on what stage of growth its in. In 2 days it grows into a budding Glow Berry flower. After 2 more days, it flowers into a Glow Berry, providing a small light radius. After an additional 2 days, it wilts, producing no light. (In the future, the lure will not be tied to the beard mechanic, and will have a function outside of providing light)

Excavator — Cravings for Caving
By right clicking on the ground, Wurrow will burrow into it at a cost of 2.5 Hunger. In this state, he is able to drop aggro, move around and perform a host of limited actions. Burrowing increases Wurrow's hunger by 2x as long as he is actively in the ground, increased to 4x while moving. Once his hunger reaches 0 , he will be forced out of the ground.
While burrowed Wurrow has several disadvantages:
  • Has decreased vision but the ability to sense his environment,
  • Unable to equip hand slot items
  • Cannot perform certain actions (eating, crafting, etc.)
As well as several advantages:
  • Moves at 6.6 (110%)
  • Can till farm soil (his movement speed is set to 4 (66%)
  • Unlocks the ability to dig up stumps and items like saplings and grass tufts
By performing an attack click or press, Wurrow will resurface, biting for 81.6 damage and returning to the ground. This bite attack has a reduced animation speed compared to normal attacking to compensate for it's high damage. Wurrow's temperature cannot go below or above 60° while he is burrowed and he will not gain any wetness while burrowed.

Infused — Anyone else feel that?
Once Shadow Rifts are enabled, Acid Rain will empower Wurrow. Whenever the caves begin to rain acid, Wurrow will receive a 50% damage boost and a 25% speed boost. In turn, he will also receive 25% more damage from all sources. Wurrow is immune to the damaging effect of Acid Rain, but his inventory and gear will still be impacted.

Coming in later updates:
  • Fully custom animations
  • Unique voice and quotes
  • Several new base-kit additions
  • Skilltree eventually...

Thanks for the complement! I'm working on many of the missing components, one of which is his idle pose while burrowed; I have a concept art for it and it should be in relatively soon.

Quotes, animations and the (broken) nameplate are all coming as I can get them done too ;)

also, it could show a pile of dirt while he is staying still when burried, similar to moleworms

I love his concept and his art, very well made! tho it only misses a proper title of his name on the character select and, of course, some quotes to show the personality of this quirky fella.

overall great work!

For the damage, he is intended to deal 81.6 damage as part of his base kit. Based on math comparing a table of weapons to the stage you unlock them, 81.6 damage is precisely how much damage needs to deal in order to match the dps of an Axe, since the attack has a frame speed of 30 (compared to the traditional survivors punch frame speed of 10); tldr, 81.6 damage per bite is 27.5 damage per second, which is exactly the same as a flint axe.

There will be custom items later down the line to buff his damage, he's not intended to benefit much from traditional weapons considering his weapon is his teeth. It's all about cost/benefit; he has essentially an infinite weapon with relative safety, but he drains hunger intensely fast.

I'm tryin to fix the nameplate now, not sure what happened to it.

I don't know if this is a bug, but Wurrow hides in the ground again after launching a sneak attack. This causes him to deal eightfold damage while remaining invulnerable. It ruins the balance. He also doesn't have a name displayed in the character selection menu.
