Go Sacrifice Yourself!

Description
Harvest skilltrainers from colonists that kill themselves at the new altar of self-sacrifice. This dark ritual transfers the sacrificed colonist’s highest ranked skill into a skilltrainer, enabling another colonist to benefit from their painful offering.

Ever come across a potential recruit lying there on the ground and think, 'Wow, I like your stats, bro,' only to realize they're a staggeringly ugly, slow-learning body purist with an annoying voice? Instantly clicks melee attack to death. Well, now you can recruit them, send them off to the altar of self-sacrifice, and receive a skilltrainer for their highest-ranked skill in return.

The lines in the gif read: 'They said there wouldn't be so much blood!', 'They’re all cowards—standing there while I bleed!', and 'Scatter my ashes somewhere beautiful... somewhere I’d be free.'

New Things
  • Empty Skilltrainer: A blank slate that captures a colonist's greatest skill during the self-sacrifice ritual.
  • Altar of Self-Sacrifice: A structure where colonists sacrifice themselves to immortalize their top skill in a skilltrainer. Requires an Empty Skilltrainer and a melee weapon.
  • 16 new lines of flavor text have been added between using the altar and the text displayed upon death.

Key Mechanics
  • Craft an Empty Skilltrainer at a Crafting Spot, Fueled Smithy, or Electric Smithy using 1 component and 20 steel.
  • Ensure a melee weapon is available and unrestricted for use.
  • Build an Altar of Self-Sacrifice from the "Misc" tab for 30 steel, 2 components, and 150 stony, metallic, or woody materials.
  • Add the "Sacrifice Colonist" bill to the altar. Disable the Sacrifice work type for colonists you do not want to kill themselves (it’s the last work type in the work tab).
  • A colonist with the Sacrifice work type enabled will perform the ritual, creating a skilltrainer of their highest skill and returning the weapon used in the process.

Use Cases
  • Preserve Key Skills: Turn a sick, old, or undesirable colonist's skill into a skilltrainer, ensuring their knowledge stays within the colony.
  • Farm Recruits: Recruit expendable colonists specifically to sacrifice, transferring their skills to strengthen your key colonists.
  • Redistribute Expertise: Shift vital skills from weaker colonists to stronger, healthier, or more valuable members of the colony.
  • Dark Roleplay: Add grim, morally ambiguous rituals to your story, enhancing your questionable playthrough.
  • Skill Hoarding: Use the altar to stockpile skill trainers for future use, allowing new recruits to quickly fill skill gaps.

Research Progression
  • Unlock the Altar of Self-Sacrifice (and the Empty Skilltrainer recipe) after researching Smithing.

Compatibility
  • Game Version: RimWorld 1.5+.
  • Mod Conflicts: None known. If it steps on any toes, let us know in the comments!

Tried in 1.6, the empty skill trainers won't make, and when I dev'd everything in, the pawn went through the ritual, lived, and the skilltrainer remained empty. Hope this gets made up to 1.6 soon as this is a very Rimworld way to get skill trainers.

I wonder if there will eventually be a medieval themed version/patch for this mod?

Just want to add my voice to the others. I would love for a 1.6 version of this mod.

Hi there! I really like this mod and do hope you can update it to 1.6. Either way though I hope you have a lovely day; look out for yourself!

Love the idea. Is this work on 1.6?

Any chance the empty skilltrainer can be made into a useable item like the resurrector for example instead of a work type/ bill to avoid accidental sacrifice? So you right click the empty trainer to use with the pawn that should sacrifice itself?

Hello, thank you for your hard work on the mod. The "empty skilltrainer"item cannot be stored as it does not appear in the list of stockpile storage items.
