2002 Beta Atmospheric Audio/Sounds Replacement Pack

In 1 collection by krazart
Half-Life 2's 2002 Era Replacement Pack
76 items
Description
This replacement pack features an assortment of audio & sounds, meant to replicate VALVe's 2002 Archived E3 Presentation for Half-Life 2 and its time-period. It compresses and abridges all of these elements into a single easy & quick to install pack.

    Features:
  • Accurate & faithful audio/sounds based on Half-Life 2's 2002 development time-period;
  • Restoration & reconstruction of sonorous elements shown in the archived presentation;
  • Era-Accurate sounds recycled & reused from Half-Life 1;
  • New & improved beta-themed soundscapes, matching 2002's audiovisual experience;
  • Does not replace sounds for music or weaponry.

    Credits:
  • PRR6755/Pennsy - Base of the modification, fixing the game_sounds_manifest issue which caused episode-based voice problems;
  • VitorHunter - NPC sounds. Strider & Combot;
  • VoidLeak - Half-Life/GoldSrc HD sounds;
  • MrShrouder - 2002 Ammo-Pickup sounds;
  • Blueprint_Guy - E3 2002/DOOM 3 metal sounds;
  • D4MN - E3 2002 misc & footsteps sounds;
  • VALVe - Leak & Beta sourced sounds.

I thank each of these members for their work and effort they put into recreating these sounds back into the game.

I intend on updating this modification as the community gains access to more sources and/or restorations. Stay tuned.

This modification is meant to be used in my "Half-Life 2's 2002 Replacement Pack". Be sure to check it out for a complete audiovisual experienced based on VALVe's 2002 Archived E3 Presentation.

    To those experiencing issues, here's a quick fix:
  1. Go to your \steamapps\workshop\content\220\3395644860;

  2. Using a VPK file-reader, such as GCFscape, load the workshop_dir.vpk file found in the previous folder into the program;

  3. Extract the root folder and paste it in your \steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom. Rename the folder as you wish.

  4. (Optional/Recommended) Be sure uninstall this modification in the workshop first, as to not cause any conflicting overwriting files;

  5. Load up Half-Life 2. Enjoy!

you can hear in the e3 2002 lighthouse section that the gunsho[ had different movement noises than retail. Otherwise, great

@PRR6755 Hey man thanks for figuring it out! I'll update the mod with those recommendations. Cheers

okay so I was able to pinpoint the issue with sounds not working with episodes.

it's the soundsmanifest.txt. If anyone is curious on how to fix it, either delete it or copy and paste missing lines not mentioned in the main script folder itself.

I agree what Refract said. Episode 1 voices are silent including Episode 2 voices, and some combine voices are silent.

The quick fix doesn't work either.

the mod broke the Episode 1 voicelines :(
