Nepenthe's DIY Schematics

Description
Ever thought your character should be able to figure out how to make basic items without finding official published schematics? Now you can!

This mod is intended as a stop-gap measure for B42 until we get the full crafting system, and it lets you create a random schematic from a chosen category by spending a few minutes with a pen and notebook. Each DIY schematic will teach one recipe, and when you get duplicates just assume your character figure out a slightly different way to make a spoon instead of coming up with a way to make a masonry trowel like you really wanted. Just like normal schematics these will not give you enough skill to make something, they just teach you the recipe.

The DIY schematics are created using the craft menu. Search for "Brainstorm" - you will need a writing implement, a notebook or notepad, a surface to write on and enough light to see.

This mod is not balanced, nor is it intended to be; it's intended to let you try out the new (and currently incomplete) crafting system without needed to enable "start with all recipes" or slowly and painfully grinding up skills to auto-discover recipes.

This mod is for B42 only.

@fortixxax For some reason I missed out explosive schematics, so I'll put "add explosive schematics to DIY schematics" on my (ever growing) To-Do list.

In Vanilla B42 you need to either get insanely lucky and find a schematic or find Magazine: The Cheapskate's John Spiral - Homemade Explosives

Are fire bombs still deadlocked behind the engineer class?

@BeautifulRnr This mod uses the same functions as vanilla schematics, so anything that can't show up in a vanilla schematic can't be generated.

this is exactly the mod I needed!!! I was getting so tired searching everywhere for stupid magazines

Its not balanced no but I think you have a great base here for something that could add more balance. I like the brain storm mechanic allot!

@z0ntir recipe list added to mod description.

I just uploaded a new version that fixes the UI crash in B42.4, and also adjusts the recipes to need a writing tool and notebook/notepad/paper/graph paper to create a schematic. Plus I finally got around to renaming "Cooking" to "Cookware" in the translation files.

If you're still having issues force steam to update the mod by closing Project Zomboid, unsubscribing, waiting a minute, then resubscribing.

I can replicate the problem, but despite being a very simple mod it's proving hard to find out why adding recipes to the game causes the code that lets a game controller use the crafting interface explode. I hope to have a fix soon!
