Defenders: Combos and Strats for Beginners
By TFC
Too many meme guides on here, not enough real help. I'm trying to change that. Maybe you already know everything (you probably don't). But, worse case, a refresher won't hurt. Let's get into some beginner combos/strats on defense that will get your team winning.

The Admiral Ackbar:
(Frost, Melusi, Tubarao, Lesion, Clash, any operator w/ barbed wire) + (Thorn / Smoke)

"It's a trap!"

Anything that can slow down enemies to get them caught in a Thorn grenade or Smoke's poison gas = easy kills. Make sure you ban Brava if you're running Thorn/Melusi though. You can also utilize Mute/Mozzie to keep her (and Twitch) out. Also, you can just hide Thorn during prep phase and they're none the wiser.

Hiding a specific operator during prep phase can be useful no matter what strat you are running. Remember that attackers can change their operators and loadouts right up until the end of prep phase in order to counter whatever operators your team selected. Deny them that info.

Loose lips sink ships.
The Lockdown:
Mute +/ Kaid +/ Bandit +/ Tubarao +/ Azami

"Fort Knox ain't got nothin' on us!"

It's easy to lock down reinforced walls if you have any combo of these operators anchored on site. You can either double down on the main breach (don't pre-place all your gadgets though, be reactive), or you can cover almost all your reinforced walls between Mute/Kaid/Bandit and have Tubarao play support from an anchor point.

Example: Tubarao can freeze a wall once there's any breach gadget on it. That gives time for Kaid and/or Bandit and/or Mute to place their gadgets and stop the breach. Mute can also focus on blocking drone entry points, so Twitch/Brava/Flores can't get in to destroy your gadgets. Lots of possible strategies. Most attackers will not anticipate multiple breach denial operators. Even against multiple Thatcher/EMP grenades, if these operators are stacking a site, there's no getting in. Just for insurance, throw in Azami if you like. If they manage to get a breach in somehow, Azami can seal off the holes and buy time for your team.

The biggest threat to this strat is probably Maverick since he can torch through reinforced, electrified walls and is unaffected by Mute jammers. Feel free to ban him for extra peace of mind.

The Life Support:
Doc (as an anchor) + Rook/Thunderbird

"I'm a doctor, not a magician. But I do have a few tricks."

An attentive Doc player that focuses on anchoring and playing medic instead of roaming around trying to swing every corner? It'll do wonders for your team. Plus, pass around some Rook plates, maybe a few Kona stations (if you're feeling adventurous), and your survival rate just skyrocketed.

I know it may seem ridiculous, but keeping your team alive increases your chance of winning.

Just a thought.
The Hall Monitor:
Clash + Any operator(s) that will stick by her the whole round

"No runnin' in the halls!"

EDIT: Since the Siege X update, Clash's ability has been reworked to allow her to either hold
her shield like she's always done, or plant her shield and activate the shock remotely. Also, shock
will no longer hurt enemies, just slow them down. If you have a teammate that's willing to work
with you, the below strat still applies.

Clash is underused, because she's pretty useless by herself. However, if one or two other teammates play off her, it's a game-changer.

Example: Someone is pushing, Clash steps in and uses her shock to slow them down. They have three choices:

1. Continue the push and try to melee.
2. Back away while facing forward.
3. Turn and run.

If they try to push, your teammates pop out while they're meleeing and get an easy pick.

If they back up facing you, the shock will slowly kill them, be cautious because they are likely waiting for an opening. Since they are slowed, this could give time for one of your teammates to flank them while they are paying attention to you.

If they turn and run, your teammates pop out and get an easy pick.

They may also try to nade you, but the majority will just do one of the above. Be wary if there are multiple enemies! If they are all doing option #2, they may be trying to expose your flank by getting you to move forward. You should stay put and hold your ground. If you are supporting a Clash that decided to push ahead, follow close behind and cover her sides/flank.

Another key to combo-ing Clash is to keep her hidden during prep phase. If attackers know you have her, they may bring Nomad, Capitao, Fuze, extra nades, etc... Remember, deny them that info.
The Overwatch:
Valkyrie +/ Maestro +/ Mozzie +/ Echo +/ any operator that can bring cams to the table

"You are being watched. A secret system, a machine that spies on you every moment of every day."

Knowing where your enemies are at basically gives you wallhack, if your team is willing to communicate.

I've seen games won easy when cams are stacked and everyone's sharing info. It's one of the most satisfying things to ping attackers on a cam or give a verbal direction and watch your teammate dink them through the wall. Sometimes, an attacker will ragequit after losing to a play like that, and that's an absolute win. However, make sure you ban Brava or Dokkaebi to stop attackers from using your cams against you, and/or run Mute/Mozzie to keep Kludge and Twitch drones at bay.

Knowledge is power!
The Home Alone:
(Echo) + (Pulse +/ Goyo +/ Smoke +/ Tachanka + all the barbed wire you can bring)

"Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal. And a Happy New Year."

This combo focuses on running the time and stopping the plant, not going for kills directly.

The key operator in this combo is Echo. Have him hide during prep phase if you can, so they don't know you have him, and then you wait. If your team can slow them down, and they are forced to plant at the last second, a shot from Echo's drone will interrupt the plant and make them lose the round.

Example: Volcan canisters on the entry ways, barbed wire throughout the site. They'll wait out the fire after destroying the baricade/wall, and then they'll start beating on the barbed wire before pushing into site. Drop the gas/shumika grenades on them, or have Pulse use his Nitro Cell/shotgun from beneath while they are crouched working on all the barbed wire. If they manage to survive long enough to make it to a last-second plant, a blast from Echo's drone will stop the plant. If it's after time, that's an instant win.

It may be tempting to blast them with his drone while they are pushing into site, but unless you know for sure it will help you team get a winning pick, it's better to wait so they don't destroy your drone. That way, you can fully utilize this play.

Watch out for Deimos and Jackal though. If Echo gets picked off before he can do his thing, this strat loses its edge. However, like I mentioned already, hiding from drones during prep phase is clutch, and should help you see this through.

*****PLEASE REMEMBER: Winning by running the time out is still winning*****.

^This applies anytime you are on Defense.
Conclusion
Keep an eye out! There's more combos/strats that I may add moving forward! What's great is that these don't require insane skill, pixel peeks, or being a "sweaty tryhard". Just cooperation.

Also, to be clear, this is not some ultimate guide to carry you all the way to Champion, just something to get you started. Be creative, and experiment as you progress. I promise that you will surprise yourself if you apply yourself.

And, as I'm sure you already know, the hardest part about any strat is getting your team to go for it and work together.

But.

If you can get them to do that? Winning is easy work. Too easy.
