[B42] Homemade Things

Description
Homemade Things - created by nheve, with additional help from PepperCat.
All of my 'Homemade' mods put together into one mod for Build 42.
This mod is only for B42 - if you are still playing B41, please use my previous mods.

Purpose:
The main purpose of this mod is to provide alternatives for important, necessary tools, to be craftable on low levels. Its not focused on creating a hyper realistic experience, but i tried to balance all homemade items and make them not too overpowered.
This mod should be also very useful for more rural and even only wilderness gameplay scenarios.

Players, who are looking for a more challenging experience, designed more in line with a current Build 42 direction, can use now (thanks to PepperCat) additional version of recipes, by enabling the Base Mod and additional submod 'Homemade Things (Hard Recipes)'.

How to use - IMPORTANT:
Please activate the main mod called Homemade Things (Base Mod).
Then activate only one of the additional submods - either choose Homemade Things (Easy Recipes) or Homemade Things (Hard Recipes).

Choose Easy Recipes submod if you want the game to feel more like in Build 41 - it provides tools affordable in early gameplay stage (but not too overpowered), without any skill level requirement, and almost all homemade recipes dont require any crafting surface - only exceptions are: making homemade bleach and homemade sledgehammer.

Choose Hard Recipes submod if you want the game to feel more in line with Build 42 - it provides necessary homemade tools but with more expensive resources - also adds requirement for crafting surface and specific skill levels, and removes few recipes for tools already added in vanilla.

Recipes:
Homemade Things (Easy Recipes) adds recipes for:
Homemade Hacksaw, Homemade Garden Saw, Homemade Pickaxe From Rags/From Rope, Homemade Trowel, Homemade Bleach + Homemade Lemon Bleach (Make 1L or 5L), Train Maintenance/Carving/Knapping/Basic Carpentry, Bash Flint Nodule with Stone, Make Homemade Wooden Mallet, Brainstorm Basic/Advanced Maintenance Methods, Carve Homemade Bucket from Log, Make Homemade Scissors, Make Homemade Needle, Make Homemade Knitting Needles, Make Homemade Sledgehammer, Make Homemade Crude Chisel, Make Improvised Sack from Sheet/from Bags, Make Frame for Homemade Sieve, Make Mesh for Homemade Sieve, Assemble Homemade Sieve, Extract Clay from Dirt, Extract Sand from Full Dirtbag, Make Homemade Bucket Of Clay Cement, Make Homemade Fleshing Tool, Make Homemade Shovel

Homemade Things (Hard Recipes) adds most recipes as above, but removes: Train Maintenance, Bash Flint Nodule with Stone, Brainstorm Basic/Advanced Maintenance Methods, Carve Homemade Bucket from Log, Make Homemade Needle, Make Homemade Knitting Needles, Make Homemade Crude Chisel, Make Homemade Fleshing Tool

Todo List: (updated on 06.08.25)
My work on the mod is currently paused. I dont think ill be adding any new features, im sorry - i dont enjoy working on the mod as much as before. But ill try to provide necessary maintenance for the future releases of Build 42, when needed.

If you are a modder, and would like to help:
I wanted to include in the mod compatibility with sandbox options, to let the player choose which recipes to use, but i wasnt able to find any good solution for implementing this.

If you have experience in modding project zomboid, and have an idea how to implement this feature, please contact me on discord (info in the Contact & Support section above). Thank you!

If you want to help with translating the mod:
This mod includes now the required translation entries for english language. If you would like to create translation for a different language, please check the short guide that i posted in a discussion thread below.

Hey, the mod order shouldnt really matter here, i think. You can use default settings, no need to change.

hi, should i put base mod first in mod order?

Its all good - i appreciate your suggestion though, i will definitely add it. Thanks!

Ah no i agree with you, but it's been a while and it part of my mod collection so it just slipped my mind..

Yes, there shouldnt be any problem with activating mid game - although its always a good idea to backup your save before.

@ManaWei
I forgot about this 'incompatible' parameter, thanks for mentioning - youre right, it could help in removing the confusion completely, ill add it soon.

Although remember to always read mod description - i put 'important' in all caps in the 'how to use' section. There is also another reminder in the ingame mod description. I dont know why people are still dismissing it. I understand some folks have problems with attention span - but its always a good habit to even just briefly check the provided mod instructions before adding any new mod to your save. But i dont know, maybe im getting old.
Either way - thanks for suggestions and support, take care and have fun!

You couldn't tag the Easy and Hard option in mods so they can't be enabled both at the same time ? would be very useful.. i thought i had a serious issue and spend almost two days trying to figure out what mod was crashing but none of them was out of date.. then i saw this mod.. it might save some grief, i was certainly frustrated.. I know other mods do it.. it helps..

can i activate mid game?

I appreciate that you have different difficulty levels for this. Thank you so much!

Ive tested the mod with new 42.11.0 release, and seems like everything is still working fine
Also updated the mod description - differences between Easy and Hard versions should be much more clear now.

@Xaos
Ive just tested it - first with Easy submod, then Hard - and everything seems to be working fine, no issues or errors. Make sure to enable only one submod - Easy or Hard, but not both.

If that wasnt the case, some other mod could be causing issues. Please check your Zomboid/console.txt file, and send me the logs from it - you can message me on discord or steam.
