About
Better shadow control!

Source Shadows gives you control over the Source engine's dynamic render-to-texture shadows (RTT). While many maps overlook shadow settings, Source Shadows lets you create custom settings for each map, with a few extra options. You can adjust the usual settings like shadow color, shadow distance, and shadow direction. Plus, you can tweak additional settings to make shadows follow the nearest world light and set the shadow direction based on the dynamic sun of the map.

Source Shadows also provides a couple of client settings, which allow you to toggle first person shadows, door shadows, shadow quality, and more.

Compared to other shadow addons, Source Shadows is incredibly universal, not taxing, and easily changeable per-map.

@cold cash money kid Remember to have sv_cheats 1 enabled for the functionalities to fully take effect. Another thing to make the shadows look nicer is to change the blur around the shadow edges. I personally have the blur turned off entirely for sharp shadows, but setting it low gives a nice effect too. Another mod that aids this mod is the Life Mod Panel. Very useful.

How tf do you get this to work? It used to work great, now it just makes it worst.

@dr.bonk I have the same thing going on, except... I simply have them all downloaded; Real CSM, because it doesn't open natively as you can simply spawn its editor and it activates Real CSM when you WANT it, rather than being forced. Source Shadows, my default choice as it simply upgrades the default shadows to be even better than simple vanilla ones. Blend Light and Soft Lamps; both do extremely similar things, but one is more homebrewed than the other and is usually capable of being captured via poster without any of the extra steps needed for Soft Lamps. HOWEVER, Soft Lamps become much more accessible when combined with the 4k screenshot taker. It has built in options to use Anti-aliasing via Super-DOF with the click of a button when taking high-resolution screenshots, AND has a nifty option to manually set your FOV for images rather than having to mess with it via right-click like the normal camera.
