Description
Did you notice that all L4D1 maps have a huge lag spike after the loading screen ends?
Or, do you simply not want to see the L4D1 CI at all because of personal preference?
Do you want a L4D1 CI swapper that actually works online‽

Since L4D2's update numbered „2.2.0.4“ the game broke some code that loads data.
Using „Simpler“ CI models with less materials is enough to eliminate lag.



Singleplayer:
Edits the population file, which means you can see your custom l4d2 models on every single campaign, like it used to be before the TLS update. Effectively undoing all of that nonsense.

With exception of the patient and police officer, because the officer carries a tonfa.
The patient and Cop got L4D2 heads to at least look like they're from L4D2.
These two goobers still cause a tiny little bit of lag, but its not crippling.

Online:
Population edits don't work online as they're script-based, unless you're the host.
Which means the L4D1 CI are still being used. But they're replaced to look like L4D2 Commons.
These "Modified L4D1 models" have no lag, as the textures for these are already in memory.
Because of bodygroup restrictions, they have less variety. But at least they look the part.
I made sure to keep the texturegroups in tact to avoid issue with the gore system.

Makes ya think the TLS update was a mistake by people who should really have known better.

Guys "updated" the l4d1 ci and broke optimization, then they made an unoptimized map using beginner level mistakes, left in a couple unused models in the game files, felt the need to plaster credits and other self referential graffiti into said maps because "look mom, i did this", broke other models that they didn't even need to touch like the gatling...

Meanwhile i'm over here fixing their nonsense CI updates, fixing the uv errors on their own models, along with precaching junk that they added via scripts and forgot to precache them...

My favorite game ruined by the sheer incompetence by people i looked up to.

I find criminal that this issue is still in the game , stuttering like crazy on new hardware setups is craaaazy stuff , you would expect this to be top priority at this point but come on its been so long already guys VALVE / TLS.

you can edit your mod load order to prefer custom models over anything this mod does.

A very great module, even better if the police and patients replace it together, because the first generation of infected individuals did not have a burning texture

just one question on the l4d1 female animations. is it possible for them to use the l4d2 animations? (not disliking the mod, i personally use it all the time)

This is good for PRE-TLS addons! Hopefully one day someone makes an addon that restores L4D1's reduced gore, just the limbs and head etc.

There's nothing we can do that doesn't cripple your game in another way.
Reducing the huge CRAPTON of skins will fix the lag, but it will break the gore system when playing online. So the only true fix is for the one dev that pushed the updates to undo his screw up, if they even know how to do that.

i wish there was some way to do this while keeping the L4D1 models. ig i just have to live with the lag spikes at the beginning
