The most difficult thing in the game will be to survive the moment of crisis, when supplies from the plane and the nearest explored territories will begin to run out, and you have not yet built all the necessary buildings.

❕❕ The most necessary buildings that will need to be built are:
Campfire, Sleeping Area, Gathering Tools, Fruit Basket, Fishing Rod, and Cooking Pot.
(Writer's note: Every day matters, and the fruit basket prevents you from dying of lack of water.
Pay close attention to everything during first 2 weeks.)

Note that before building a pot, you will need a lot of wood to fry food, and you also need to build it. (Writer's comment: It might be smart to live on just raw meat and fish for a while.)
--
And in order to have time to do all this, it is important to understand some things:
1. Starting a new game

❕❕ After starting a new game, take a close look at all the perks of all the characters.
If there are negative perks associated with increased depression or food consumption, then do not hesitate to restart the game.

(In general, I would advise you to make a lot of attempts, because the right perks will make your life much easier. For example, wonderful perks as poor appetite or optimist are suitable for any character, but if they are more specific and tied to certain skills, it is very desirable that they go for those who have this skill high.)
Therefore, restart without hesitation until you get a more or less good perk layout at the start.
Plane
2. Regarding the crashed plane:

The game says that food on the plane will spoil quickly. This is nonsense.
It's just that each next trip to the plane will bring fewer resources, but it doesn't matter when it happens.

❕❕ Therefore, I would recommend not to go on the plane at all on the first day. Hunger is already at zero for everyone, and there will be a lot of delicious food that will simply disappear.

❕❕ After that go to the plane once a day. Also, go to the plane with characters with the maximum level of gathering, that is either Alexander or Yuri.
Relationships
3. Relationships between the characters

This is a very important aspect of the game that you need to pay attention to!

❕❕ The fact is that when distributing tasks between characters, you dont need to only check points from their skills. Very often, good relationships between characters are more effective than high skills.

(For example, right at the start of the game, choose to make a fire and put Yuri and Alexandro at the workbench. Their relationship with each other is zero, this will be indicated as 2.5 hearts. The first will have a craft level of about 50, the second will have about 40, well, that is, 90 for two.

Next, point at the machine and you will be shown the efficiency of their work and it will be around 1.6. Now we take and replace Alexander with Illyana, whose craft level is around 20.
That is with Yuri only 70. But point at the machine and you will see that the efficiency of work will be around 1.75, which is higher! And all because their relationship with each other is almost 100.)

--
❕❕ In addition, each pair action adds or decreases the relationship every turn, and the higher it is initially, the more likely it is that it will be added more, and often significantly. Therefore, if you have made any relationship, then constantly go for it.

(That is, let's say Bob and Jacob have the highest fishing skill and in the future they will fish together, so it's a good idea to constantly put them together on different tasks, so that by the time of fishing they have already grown up in friendship, which will give a serious profit.)
--
And here is another important thing. As you can see, it's important to try to increase positive relationships in order for a team to work more effectively, but this will often also depend on depression! The less depression, the greater the chance of adding relationships to a plus in general and a big plus in particular. Try to keep the depression at zero for all characters working in pairs.
Stats and skills
4. Stats and skills

When characters are given a level, they will be given points for distribution, the number of which will depend on intelligence.

It seems very logical to pump more intelligence during the first lessons, so that later they get more points, but that's not right. Rather, upgrade gathering/scavenging and constitution.

They will get tired more slowly and lose more fatigue when resting. This is critically important, because otherwise they'll need to rest more. Pump intelligence at the beginning only to Bob.
Miscellaneous
5. Other miscellaneous:

You will have to live on fruit from the plane, as well as water and fruit found on the island. But these will be one-time things, so don't eat fruit.
Without water, a game over comes immediately.

❕(Writer's note: Try not to over-feed people before day 10.
Around day 10, there's a chance that the fat man will eat all your food, raising hunger for everyone else. That can ruin everything if your plane is empty at that point.
Don't feed the fat man much before the event and start fixing others' hunger after the event.
After the event, it's safe to start hoarding food.)

--
❕5.2 Regarding the collection of resources on the island:

Try to do it always with one chosen character.
(Writer's note: it depends heavily on stealth + other skill, so Julia is a good option for interacting with event items.
This will also put injuries on one character which is smarter to avoid overhealing.)

--
❕5.3 In general, until the end of the construction of vital buildings, do not rush to clear the map.
You will have time to collect later, but a bunch of injuries will prevent you from doing everything as efficiently as possible, so collect only when necessary.

//WRITER EDIT: Answering a user comment:
"I can't keep from starving to death by day 16-17 -- Can't get the fruit basket and fishing rods up until day 13-14. Forget the cooking pot."
--
Answer: Had the exact same problem for the longest time on my second run. I noticed especially depression affects the workstation results a lot. Fatigue too.

Possible solutions:
1) I started to rotate best talkers (Conversation skill = depression recovery) with workers who have started to gain even the tiniest bit of depression (5-20%).

Which means that I normally have 2 workers in a station:
> One takes a break 1-1 talk at the campfire and loses a bit of fatigue too as a bonus.

*Don't be afraid to replace the worker during their break if needed, just borrow a worker from exploration or something
---
2) Also ditched the idea to make the cooking pot until mid-game cause I didn't have enough luck with wood. Just feed them with raw meat and fish, they can handle it :,D
There's always an excess of herbs from gathering and herbs = sickness cure
---
3) I cannot emphasize enough how important the meals from plane (and meal loss during night) is at the beginning. You can skip the daily food run to plane if you have excess food that day.

I didn't let the hunger and fatigue go over 25% since it affects depression and working results, but I drove them HARD after making the fruit basket and before the fishing rod trying to hurry it up :,D

Just cause I knew I'll be getting a approx 3-6 fishes a day after that with Jacob-Bob combo and it's easier to fix the hunger and give everyone a big break after that.
Objects of interest on the map
❕In the menu around the things you can interact with on the island, you will see functions in different colors. Some options will be red and others will be white.
Red means that the object of interest will disappear later. So first use the white ones.
(For example, first we collect fruit, and only then we cut down the tree.)

--
6. Objects of interest on the map

Many things you will meet on the island can be interacted with in different ways.
❕(For example, you will find scales and you will be asked to collect stones or a weapon from them. After selecting any option, other will disappear and you will get one thing. And here you will either get 5 stones OR +20 ATK to the one who collects the weapon... The choice seems obvious here.)

❕The first person on the map will be the antenna grandpa. Don't talk to him right away. The fact is that the next night after the conversation, he will throw 10 depression off to all the characters. It is worth using wisely.

❕The third fat man on a pile of grapes will throw off hunger to zero to the one who talks to him. Do not feed the person who will do this, you will save on food.

❕Do not search the Virgo shell. Apart from injuries, you will not get anything.
❕(Writer: However, search the giant clam which is another item.)

❕Let the raft be dismantled. Wood and ropes are more important than anything else in the beginning.

❕Loot the fish cage when you run out of food. There are a lot of fish in it, and the basket will be needed for fruit basket.

//Writer's note:
❕Search the hanging vines and hunt the monkeys.

❕Harvest hanging clothes into fabric, you'll get camo cloak.

❕Decorate the sandcastle and then search it.

❕You can get some fatigue up with the price of small amount of depression at the skeleton sofa.

❕Hunt the spider's den. Hunt the small animal.

❕Collect fruit from fig tree, search it and cut it. *//

❕When you find the fountain, there will be five attempts to drink. It reduces all negative states such as depression, injury, hunger, etc. but only the first two attempts, and then vice versa.
So drink twice, collect bottles for diseases and do not touch it anymore.

❕There is no need to sacrifice anything on the altar. You will only get depression, but the head of a bull gives meat.

for the recherche combos, i did boost intellect and kowledge for both of them. I also bosst the discussion for the old man. it help in the long run.

i have some informations to share.1 if you combine the little girl and the old man, you can unlock craft recepie like the fishin rod around day 16.
all camp object have durabilitie ( sleep area, the gathering basket...) . When this durabilitie get lower ther are less effective.for exemple : the lesser durabilit the sleep aera get, the lesser people recover fatigue. this take effect as soon as the durability hit 70%

Agree with you D; I had couple of loops too, and painstakingly backtracked the exact day when it happens and fixed the day before it. I kept no one in the books when the fishing rod is being built and until hunger is fixed

Appreciate it, but I did exactly the stuff you listed and still hit critical hunger/water failure feedback loop by the time I could get the fishing rods up!

Bummer because Easy mode is zero challenge. Normal should have been hard, and something between the current easy and normal as the real normal.

Sorry I couldn't answer to your question sooner. I answered it at the Miscellaneous section of the guide :)

I goes beyond that, seeming like it's impossible to survive the first 20 days on normal unless you not only follow an EXACT guide, but save scum character starts AND every single random roll. I just don't see how it's mathematically possible to have the fruit basket, fishing, and cooking pot up before the plane runs out and everyone starves to death, besides ALWAYS falling within the top 10% distribution of random roll outcomes.

I agree, it is a very unforgiving game and it is both luck based, and about micromanaging everything, hard to keep track of the characters and who gets to sleep and eat and all random things too.

Well geez, surviving just the early game is next to impossible on normal difficulty? That really stinks. I even kept rerolling until I got no bad traits, then followed the guide. No clue how much better I could have done. Save scumming until I got the best possible harvest results every single roll?

I was hoping this would be a more forgiving version of Vinland. There's a great formula here, but they really need to work on the difficulty balance.

idk if you have it on by default, but in the beginning of each campaign in the settings it is always set to "normal" in dificulty. perhaps set it down to easy, since I also find it hard to get a really good start to the game as well

No matter what, I can't keep from starving to death by day 16-17. Only scavenging the plane once per day, no overfeeding. Keeping the best people on research & crafting, I can't get the fruit basket and fishing rods up until day 13-14. Forget the cooking pot. A couple days of maxing the fishing and fruit spots isn't enough to prevent starvation.

What am I doing wrong?
