Description
The 6820 Series (6820系) is a general type commuter train operated by Kintetsu Railway since 2002.

A two-car “Series 21” train introduced for the narrow-gauge Minami-Osaka line system, the 6820 series was built to replace the last remaining 6000 series sets, which had been in service since the 1960s. Compared to other “Series 21” generation vehicles on the standard gauge network, the output per 2-car set was reduced from 740kW to 640kW, as commuter services on the Minami-Osaka Line operates at a top speed of 100km/h only. The inverter control system had also been changed from 1C4M to 1C2M, additional redundancy was also installed in other systems to bolster reliability for independent 2-car operations. The exterior design and passenger cabin specifications of the 6820 series are identical to other types within the same generation. Only two sets were produced totalling 4 cars, one of the fewest in Kintetsu’s fleet. The type is stationed at Furuichi Depot and operated in common with other 2-car sets, up to 8 car formations.
