ASL BoF4 About His Shadowy Sides
The German advance into Russia appeared to be progressing as planned. In the north, however, the Wehrmacht was in for a surprise. Beginning on.23 June, repeated attacks by Russian units supported by heavy tanks met with occasional success. Though ponderous, the heavily-armed and armored KV-2s seemed impossible for the unprepared Germans to handle. One of these attacks prompted the hasty retreat of Panzer-Abteilung 65, which found itself entangled with other units attempting to get out of the way of the Russian juggernaut. Suddenly, it seemed as if a breach in the German line was a distinct possibility, and Command quickly redirected forces from surrounding areas to counter the threat.
