Nagasaki Electric Tramway 1200/1500 Series / 長崎電気軌道1200形・1500形

This mod includes the 1200, 1200A, 1300, 1500, and 1700 Series (1200形・1200A形・1300形・1500形・1700形) trams operated by Nagasaki Electric Tramway.

Introduced to address the shortage of vehicles after the 1982 Nagasaki floods, this group of vehicles used newly manufactured bodies combined with reused bogies and control equipment to reduce costs. The 1200 series entered service in 1982 with a total of 5 vehicles, replacing an equal number of non-air-conditioned cars still common during rush hour services. All except one car were refurbished with new bogies and running equipment in 2003, and re-designated as 1200A series. five 1300 series trams were built in 1987-89 to eliminate remaining non-AC vehicles, these had equipment from scrapped Nishitetsu Kitakyushu Line trams and minor changes in the passenger cabin. This group was not updated with the 1200 series. The 1500 series built in the 1990s took advantage of the withdrawal of newer vehicles on the Kitakyushu Line, and thus had newer bogies and more powerful motors than previous models. Lastly, the company used second hand equipment from its own retiring 700 series to construct two 1700 series trams in 1999. These were the first in the fleet to support barrier free access with the addition of wheelchair spaces. The 1500 and 1700 series are distinguished from previous models by larger windows, of which there are 4 per side instead of 6. There are 19 vehicles in total in this group, all of which are in active service today. Together they represent a significant period in Nagasaki’s tram history, where these affordable vehicles can be credited with keeping fares low to stem ridership decline during an era where many tram and streetcar lines were abolished.
