CONTENT

W.A.T.E.R. enhances Kenshi's visuals with a high-quality redux, adjusting exposure values to serve as the foundation for this mod's ReShade preset. Designed to offer a premium visual experience, W.A.T.E.R. adds depth to the image without compromising clarity or over/under-saturating the image. W.A.T.E.R. incorporates Mood Lighting and Mood Weather by crunkaintdead. All changes to weather and lighting are credited to him, with permissions to use both mods granted in their respective mod page descriptions.

W.A.T.E.R.'s ReShade ~Leviathan ReShade~ comes equipped with a suite of toggleable effects designed for both full and compact keyboard layouts. The default, game-ready package works out of the box, featuring a LUT that enhances dark and light areas while enriching blues to make Kenshi's skies beautifully blue and adding a subtle cold color temperature adjustment. Other included effects feature high-quality MXAO, which accurately simulates shadows, along with global illumination that provides realistic light bouncing within the environment. Included is a finely tuned debanding effect that removes banding artifacts without compromising texture clarity, ensuring smooth gradients. Additionally, a high-fidelity sharpening effect enhances Kenshi's textures, making them look crisper and more detailed.

ADDITIONAL FX FOR SCREEN ARCHERS AND VIDEO MAKERS

Three preset letterbox effects are included, emulating aspect ratios from ultra-wide screens to classic CRTs. These presets feature the Ultra Panavision 70mm 2.20 and 2.76 film aspect ratios, as well as the 4:3 aspect ratio of old CRTs, also including scanline overlays and chromatic aberration effects for a nostalgic, cinematic experience. Also included; two depth of field effects, film grain, lens effects, threshold effects to create a dramatic gritty look, and a low-frequency perceptual obscurance irradiance effect for added visual depth and realism. Finally, a fun wireframe overlay and two LUTs inspired by the films On the Silver Globe and Blade Runner 2049 are included, designed specifically to give your screenshots and videos a unique look that no other published ReShade preset for Kenshi currently offers.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Any mod that changes exposure values or makes night darker is incompatible.

  • Subscribe to W.A.T.E.R.
  • Go to the ReShade[reshade.me] website and download the latest installer.
  • Run the ReShade installer and select Kenshi.exe.
  • Select Direct3D 10/11/12.
  • Select which shaders you want.
(Selecting all is fine; after initial start-up, even with all shaders selected, subsequent start-ups will be almost instant with these newer versions of ReShade.)
  • Run Kenshi once to initialize ReShade (ReShade's menu is bound to the home key by default), then remove any FX causing errors:
    • In the ReShade menu, right-click the FX causing an error and select "Open in Folder."
    • Delete the FX file in the folder.
  • Go to my Nexus mod page[www.nexusmods.com] and manually download the Steam version.
  • Unzip the mod and extract the contents (excluding readme) into your Kenshi Directory (where Kenshi.exe is located). If prompted to overwrite any files, select "Yes to All".
  • Run Kenshi and select ~Leviathan ReShade~.ini in the ReShade home menu drop-down.

There are two presets, ~Leviathan ReShade C~ has keybindings made for compact keyboard users.

Please be cognizant of changing keybindings, be sure that every effect assigned to a single keybind is assigned to the new bind, some effects are made to be used simultaneously.

Also, the ordering of effects is crucial for the effects to function together correctly, if you move them around by accident just check the second preset that it comes with or re-download overwrite the ReShade ini.

MONITOR SETTINGS FOR IDEAL IMAGE QUALITY

  • Set monitor gama to 2.2
  • Monitor color temperature should be set to neutral/normal (not warm or cold)
  • Brightnes at minimum 50% (Depending on your monitor)

SETTING UP RESHADE SCREENSHOTS

Steam and Kenshi's built-in screenshot features have some limitations. If you disable Steam's in-game overlay, you lose access to its screenshot function. Additionally, Kenshi’s built-in screenshots suffer from significant quality loss, and neither option allows for format customization, such as saving images as PNG or JPG. This mod includes a dedicated folder within Kenshi’s -screens directory, designed specifically for capturing high-quality screenshots using ReShade without interfering with your existing screenshots. Here’s how to set up ReShade’s screenshot function:

Keybinding:
  • Open ReShade menu (Home by default)
  • Naviagte to Setting and Screenshots
  • Set a keybind for the screenshot key
SETTING FILE PATH:
  • Locate the screenshot path field (has the folder icon next to it)
  • Set the path to Kenshi/_screens/ReShade Screens
  • Try taking a screen shot to make sure it works.

(9/13/2025 ) If Kenshi is crashing to desktop on startup and you've deduced that its not because of a mod, try downgrading ReShade. ReShade 6.5.1 appears to cause Kenshi to crash. 6.4.1 seems to work fine and I got the mod to work. Hope this helps!

@Cross Thanks for the kind words friend! :)

It's been a while since I've been able to play Kenshi, I do remember there is a FX that really crushes darks in the image, as displayed in the 4th picture in the gallery on this page. I can't remember what the FX is named in ReShade though. :/

Another thing is the mod itself. I Have made edits to the in-game gamma levels of day and night time and also incorporated a mod which edits torch lights too. Disabling the mod will lighten up the night but iirc it makes the daytime look washed out. If you know how to do a little modding you can edit the mod file to make the night time gamma brighter.

I hope this helps! :D

Hi there! Your mod has been a game changer for me, Kenshi has never looked so beautiful. I keep the On the Silver Globe LUT basically on all the time in my game just to make Kenshi that more eerie in a beautiful way.

The only thing is that come night time, it's super dark for me. I basically can't see anything :P I've tried upping my monitor gamma to 2.2 like recommended but sometimes I have to turn the reshade off if something important is happening at night.

@Aaron it works when you have the effects turned off I assume. If so try loading it with some effects turned off to find which one is causing issue.

When loading into the world, tried loading my save game and creating a new game. Had 2 more mods on that I forgot to mention
-Nice Textures Collection (without map and ui)
-Slopeless

@Oldman_Gardo The game settings by default have the home-key set to zoom. You can adjust the keybindings in the game settings.

When i press the HOME button to adjust the settings, the game starts zooming in none stop. Any idea why?
