Description
Surface Action Series; North Atlantic Clash, 1963

This is the second in a series of surface fleet-focused scenarios that will span the entirety of the time-frame present in Command: These scenarios are not related.

The fragile peace of the post-World War II world has been shattered. The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 was merely the prelude to a full-scale confrontation between the superpowers. A U.S. RF-8 reconnaissance flight was shot-down over a Cuban-Soviet missile site, prompting a limited and conventional retaliatory strike by the U.S. on various Cuban command-and-control assets.

In-return, a U.S. destroyer in the Pacific was torpedoed and sunk by a Soviet submarine ‘wolf-pack.’

The U.S. public, now baying for Red blood, forced POTUS’ hand. In mid-1963, after several months of stalled and failed negotiations, a full-scale air campaign was launched over Cuba, decimating their military capabilities within hours, and killing dozens, if not hundreds of Soviet advisors.

The Soviet Union withdrew from the United Nations after a move to condemn the United States’ actions was rejected.

After Soviet diplomats were withdrawn from all NATO and Western-aligned nations, a deeply uneasy peace fell over the world for several months, with the USSR insisting that a “de facto state of war” now existed between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Finland quickly joined NATO in the intervening months, with the British press having dubbed the nascent Third World War instead as the "Second Phony War."

In the early hours of a cold October morning, Warsaw Pact forces crossed the Iron Curtain, stalling-out in central Germany, but overrunning northern Finland and most of Norway.

Emboldened by their hold of the northern Nordic nations, a large Soviet surface action group (SAG) -- with the modernized 'command battleship' Stalingrad as her flagship -- has been detected attempting to transit the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom (GIUK) gap.

As the commander of a hastily cobbled-together joint-U.S.-UK fleet, you are tasked with engaging the Soviet SAG. Your orders are clear: prevent the Red SAG from breaking through the GIUK gap and protect the integrity of NATO’s North Atlantic dominance. With the Soviets tying-up U.S. super carriers in the central Atlantic and in the Pacific; you must make do with what is available.

The stakes are high, and the eyes of the world are upon you.

the.Plague.; Thanks! Yeah, I try to set-up the things I find most annoying/time-consuming. After all, if you don't like it, one can easily delete/modify the missions. But yeah, thank you!

Another great scenario in that series, thumbs up!
I love how the preset standard missions for AEW, ASW and OECM let you jump right into the scenario. Keep up the good work!
