What is Starwind?

Starwind is a Morrowind Total Conversion mod that changes the base game into Star Wars set in the times of Classic Kotor games. That means it has its own unique story, with over 12 planets (Kashyyyk, Hoth, Lok etc.) and still growing via mod addons created by an active community. The base game is feature complete and boasts version number 3.1 (usually release versions are 1.0 so it has updated quite a lot).

It has about 8 joinable factions from Sith (fleet) to Jedi (fleet) to Hutt Cartel, Assassins, Bounty Hunters and various interesting questlines such as the hidden path of Jedi.

You can wield lightsabers and blasters, fly speeders and a spaceship, nobody though possible in a 20 year old game.

It is a huge Star Wars adventure running on your favorite game - Morrowind with gameplay very close to Morrowind some things have been altered slightly to allow Star Wars feel in it.

Character creation is deep. It has reworked Morrowind skills and attributes but they mostly function the same old way. You can can choose from around 31+ playable races which are usually expanded the more DLC addons you install. From Rodians, Twi'leks, Zabraks to even Droids. All have their unique feats and abilities.

The game is full of secrets and easter eggs. There are a lot of collectibles such as famed Fenelar armor that you have to search for through out the galaxy if you wish, Gizka pets and holocrons that bestow you their power!

Star Wars epic

I would say gameplay wise with all the expansions it is anywhere from 50 to 100+ hours of playtime. It adds over 150 weapons, and over 200 quests as well as several mini-games like pazaak and dejarik. The ability to free roam in space is interesting too.

The mod requires OpenMW but it provides a lot of functionality and quality of life changes like being able to have multiple (over 30) quicksaves and generally runs better on modern computers. As such you can also play Starwind online via TES3MP which is an online mod and Starwind even has an online expansion of planet of Naboo (which is only played Online). But if you don't want to play Online there are plenty other planets to explore. Afaik the entire game can be played Online.

You can run Starwind on Windows, Linux and MacOS!
FIRST STEP before Choosing Manual or Auto Mod List: Install OpenMW
So you need OpenMW free modern community created engine for Morrowind, installation is pretty straightforward but I will link you another Steam guide that I used for help and it also allowed me to integrate the OpenMW into the Steam Install of Morrowind.

5/12/2025 edit:

Since last I played the mod I read talks on discord that they were implementing some quest fixes into the main files of those DLCs and Add-ons. So you might not need to install additional fixes, for example Siddha Ca quest might already have the patch embedded.

AUTOMATED MOD LIST INSTALLATION SECTION:
AUTO Install section begins. More carefree experience
Auto Mod List
There is an automated mod list install that can simplify the process where you do not manually choose the mods but rather get them handed to you in a complete augmented experience!

https://modding-openmw.com/guides/auto/starwind-modded/windows#selected-mod-list

Here is a link with Starwind and Windows OS selected. But should you choose to go with Linux or MacOS you can just scroll up a little bit and from the drop down menu on the left choose the required Operating System. Right under Starwind with 65 mods.

Just follow these steps and the instructions you will get on the internet page and it should automate the process somewhat.

This is the mod list itself with links to each mod. More of a manual look into it to see what you get.

https://modding-openmw.com/lists/starwind-modded/

Just in case I am leaving the troubleshooting page from the wiki but I think it will mostly be useless for the mod list and your best bet will be to use the discord from the section below this section.

https://starwind.fandom.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_Tips

Additionally, if you want mutliplayer, it is not included in the auto mod list and needs to be installed manually. Better consult discord for multiplayer as you will probably want to join an existing server rather than host your own. Multiplayer section is located below.

ONLINE Multiplayer Mode
Starwind can be played online using TES 3 Multiplayer Mod

So here is a link to Elder Scrolls 3 Multiplayer mod if you wish to play online with friends, it has a guide at the bottom of the page how to get it running, I have not played online myself so I can't help you troubleshoot it but you can go onto official Starwind discord to ask questions. Starwind team hosts its own server and plays there regularly.

https://tes3mp.com/

Starwind has content for online gameplay too.

An online only DLC mod planet of Naboo:

*This is not installed with Automated Mod List but rather needs to be installed and configured manually*
DISCORD - Starwind Official Discord Link - upd: 8/4/25
Contact the developers, mod makers behind Starwind and join the official community

https://discord.gg/W8GcZmbV

Here is the invite link, if it gets outdated just write a comment in this guide I will update it.

You can use discord to talk to the developers directly, they are nice people and show up frequently. They ask for suggestions from players, what mods they'd like to see. They offer help and you can even get a few work in progress patches from them to get an even better experience. But you don't need those patches too much as the game is of a rather good quality already.

Feel free to pop up and ask them any questions
Disclaimer
I do not own Starwind, or any related IP, I have no affiliation with Starwind dev team and I have not taken part in the development of this mod. Same goes for all the mods and games listed here. All the information / data inside the links belongs to their respective authors / owners. The only thing that I made and I own is this guide itself that exists solely for the purpose of providing information on how to install these free-to-play non-for-profit modifications onto Morrowind game.

Thank you for visiting my guide! And may the force be with you!

@Lumby
Well it is a good guide and it is to the point. OpenMW is the way to play Morrowind these days so it is one of the most important subjects to write about. It is the basis for all things Morrowind.

And the guide is indeed much better than the other one you yourself credited too. Simplicity is a part of genius.

it warms my cold dead heart to see people link to my openmw guide.
i wrote that ugly thing in an afternoon while i was bored and it somehow became one of the most top rated guides here. funny how that works.

I downloaded this mod years ago and could not get in to it. I was stuck on Taris, I think. But it looks pretty good in the videos. I may need to download again an check it out.
