Boo

Boo, a timid ghost, is ready for frightening fighting! Hailing from a certain kingdom, he has many tricky moves up his (lack of) sleeves. He’s feeling plenty spirited, at least. Watch out for his many ghastly attacks, or prepare to be petrified with panic!



Boo and his crew possess a random object (choosing between a Boo mushroom, a Boo plush, and a potted plant) and launch it at the foe. If there are no foes nearby, it launches straight forward, but if there’s an enemy nearby, it will home in! It doesn’t move fast, but it can be difficult to avoid if it locks onto you!


Boo temporarily disappears and attempts to teleport to a Boo Brigadier. If no Brigadier exists, he instead does a small jump upward. If no Brigadier exists and you Up Special at the start of your double jump, you will have a slightly higher jump.


Boo summons several Boo Buddies and moves forward for a few moments. This can be angled up and down. If Boo hits a wall or a shield, the crew will turn around, so be careful!


Boo commands a Boo Brigadier to stay in place. There is almost no limit to where this can be placed. Pressing Down Special again causes the Brigadier to try to scare opponents. If successful, the opponent will be petrified with fear for a moment! Literally scared stiff! If Boo uses Up Special, he will warp to this Brigadier’s location, causing the Brigadier to vanish. And because it can be placed anywhere, you need to be careful about it! It’s possible to leave a Brigadier offstage and warp to your doom!

Boo’s double jump behaves somewhat strangely, going down for a moment before going up, similar to some other characters. Also similarly, pressing an attack can cancel the double jump!

Forward Aerial summons a Mini Boo, which will attempt to hit the foes twice. It can be hit itself, though, so be careful of that!
Boo spins around a Bomb Boo, and on hit it will explode! This leaves Boo vulnerable, but it’s very strong.

Boo joins a group of Circling Boo Buddies and leads them. The first three Boos in the line can be hit.

(Creator's notes: Sprites by J-dudd. Explosion sprites by kirbyzaz. Still working on improving spritework. This one was kinda awkward for that, honestly. Rather than an archetype from a platfighter, I wanted to focus on the idea of him being “Tricky” like in the sports games he’s in. I think he came out interesting because of that. It’s not like he doesn’t/won’t fit an archetype, but that wasn’t my design philosophy going in. This dude is a long-time favorite of mine and a go-to when available.
