By the late 2070s, Hawaii had solidified its place as the most sought-after holiday destination for the Western world, attracting tourists eager to immerse themselves in a melting pot of American, Polynesian, and Asian influences. Its strategic location led it to become one of the most formidable American military strongholds in the northern hemisphere, with cutting-edge, fusion-powered technology maintaining its defences. Amid the constant rotation of soldiers, Hawaii’s landscape also held a deep reverence for its history. The iconic Tikichiki Resort was built upon the remnants of two ancient, culturally rich Hawaiian sites, blending the allure of the past with the luxury of a high-tech, retro-futuristic future.

Priding itself as an ecological utopia, the resort offered eco-lodges for environmentally conscious visitors and a luxury hotel for those seeking both comfort and adventure, with its numerous on-site sporting facilities. Guests could enjoy a lively evening at the Fizzy Bar, sipping signature Mai Tai cocktails, indulge in gourmet dining at the Tikichiki restaurant, or unwind on the pristine white sands of the beach. Thrill-seekers would flock to the roller coasters inspired by Hawaiian deities, soaring above a backdrop of both natural beauty and the latest in nuclear-powered entertainment.

However, when the bombs fell in 2077, paradise quickly turned into a nightmare. Once-bustling beaches became desolate, radiation-soaked wastelands, and residents scrambled toward the local vault, no time to take any possessions save a single poster of the resort’s mascot. Although intended to house only the Vault Tec’s elite, corruption derailed Vault-Tec’s sinister plans for the vault, leaving it open for anyone that could reach it in time.

The survivors dwelled within the safety of the vault for generations. As living memory of world above, a rift emerged where some residents began to idolise the stories of the resort, elevating its once-whimsical mascot from the worn poster to a divine status, while others denounced this false god.

When radiation levels receded to tolerably safe thresholds, many ventured out to seek their fortunes in the new world.

The so-called Tiki tribe returned to the resort, determined to restore it for the glory of the great Tikichiki, believing that one day, tourists would return.

Others flocked to the ruins of a nuclear missile silo installed within the strategically important Punchbowl crater, once known as Punchbowl Shakedown. The abundant scrap allowed them to establish a thriving town, shaped by the harsh realities of survival. Trade flourished, but survival meant constant struggle, and every deal came with a risk. The town's ruthless reputation earned it the nickname Shaketown, which the locals embraced as a symbol of their dominance.

Meanwhile, the scientific community chose to remain in the vault, focused on advancing research and humanity’s future, distancing themselves from the vault’s darker origins.
