ZiL Engineering Building

The engineering building of the Likhachev Plant (ZiL). Was located in Moscow

New models of cars and innovations in production were developed here. Drawings, schemes and plans were drawn here also. For each new piece of equipment or vehicle, it was necessary to develop details and methods of their manufacture, therefore, a huge complex in itself, consisting of an Engineering, Laboratory (stylobate under the tower of facory administration) and UKER was directly involved in this.

On the ground floor of the building there were laboratories where new parts were tested and measured.
Also in the building there was the main book depository of the entire plant - the Scientific and Technical Library (Научно-Техническая Библиотека - НТБ - NTB) where one could find literature on all issues, primarily problems of such a complex industry as the automotive industry.
By the 70s and 80s, the building gradually began to be filled with advanced computing technology, which helped designers and engineers in their difficult work.
And inside, opposite the entrance to the building, since the opening, there has been a statue of V.I. Lenin.

In 2020, the author managed to visit the building directly, was impressed by the huge interiors and countless laboratories, including chemical ones.
However, after a couple of months it became clear that the building was being prepared for "reconstruction" with the preservation of only load-bearing structures (upon reconstruction into an office center). Thanks to the efforts of those who are not indifferent, all documentation, exhibits, furniture and interior items were removed from the entire complex of buildings to the storerooms of the museum of the carpool of the General Staff of the Russian Federation.
However, so far there has been no site for placement and the exhibits are waiting in the storerooms of the museum. We are waiting for the continuation of the story!
