Т-90М "Прорыв"

The T-90M ‘Proryv’ (Object 188M ‘Proryv-3’) is a deep modernisation of the Russian T-90 MBT adopted for service in 2020.
It was developed at the initiative of the Ural Transport Machine Building Design Bureau as part of the Proryv-3 R&D project, as a result of the modernisation of the Proryv-2 programme. The aim of the programme was to modernise the tank comprehensively, covering practically all major systems.

The tank modernisation was based on successful engineering solutions of the T-90AM and T-90SM tanks. The work resulted in a tank called the T-90M. It also took into account the operational experience of these vehicles and their shortcomings. The work on the design of the T-90M Object 188M tank started in the early 2010s. The tank was first presented to the public at the Army-2018 international military-technical forum.

In 2017-2019, the Russian Ministry of Defence signed three contracts for the supply of T-90M tanks totalling over 160 vehicles. The first two contracts are for the delivery of 60 vehicles, of which 10 are new and 50 are modernised, from T-90 early modifications. The third contract is for the modernisation of the T-90A vehicles in service to the T-90M level. The first T-90M vehicles were delivered to the Russian Armed Forces in the spring of 2020. In the same year, the tank was accepted into Russian service. In early 2021, UVZ started serial production and deliveries of T-90M tanks to the Russian Defence Ministry.
