Description
The Tiger is a Russian multi—purpose all-terrain vehicle, an armored car, and an army off-road vehicle.

The Tiger and its modifications are manufactured at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant with YaMZ-5347-10 engines (Russia)

The direct customer of the multi-purpose vehicle was Bin Jabr Group Ltd (BJG) from the UAE, which allocated 60 million US dollars for the development and manufacture of prototypes. The main contractor and coordinator of the project was a subsidiary of the Gorky Automobile Plant (JSC "GAZ") CJSC Industrial Computer Technologies. The author of the idea and the chief designer of the car is Alexander Korshunov. The tests were conducted at the Research Institute of Automotive Technology of the 3rd Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense of Russia (Bronnitsy, Moscow region).

The first three samples of cars, which were given the name Tiger HMTV, in various versions, including armored, were presented in Abu Dhabi at the International Arms Exhibition IDEX-2001. The customer liked the cars, but without specifying the reasons, the Arab side refused the services of Russian designers and specialists when testing cars in the UAE, provided for by the contract, which was terminated. The cars and part of the design documentation remained with BJG, which, after refining the design of the machine, together with foreign specialists, began production of identical Nimr (tiger) armored vehicles in various versions in June 2005.

So GAZ has a reserve — a developed car. By the decision of the director of GAZ in 2002, three cars were assembled in different versions (with an armored three—door body, an unarmored two-door body with an awning body and an unarmored four-door body with an awning body) of the second series - with a different appearance and interior. It was them called GAZ-2975 "Tiger" that were presented at the MIMS-2002.

After two prototypes of the car entered the Moscow SOBR for trial operation at the end of the same year, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia became interested in the car and acted as the customer of the Tigers. Serial production of Tiger cars was organized at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant (AMZ) in 2005, where it is carried out to this day; at the Gorky Automobile Plant, Tiger cars were produced until March 2001.
