Description
The 3000 Series (3000形) is a commuter train operated by Keisei Electric Railway since 2003.

Developed as a new type that complies with the requirements of the law on barrier-free transportation implemented a few years prior, the 3000 series became a new standard commuter train for the Keisei Group. It was produced over a long period from 2002 until 2019 and was ordered in several batches that had minor differences, mostly in passenger cabin equipment. Starting from this type, Keisei changed to using hyphens to denote car numbers within the same formation, such as 3001-1 for car 1 of the 3001 formations. This method is also used by Toei Subway and Keikyu, the other companies operating on the Asakusa Line system. The 3000 series is a stainless-steel train built by Nippon Sharyo, and cantilever type long seats were installed with slightly wider seat width compared to previous vehicles. Earlier sets were intended for the Keisei Main Line and were not compactible with the Asakusa Line. Those of the 7th batch and later were designed for through services include Access Express, and conform to the joint standards outlined by Keisei, Toei, and Keikyu. A total of 329 cars were manufactured, divided into 29 6-car sets and 19 8-car sets. Keisei subsidiaries also ordered derivatives of the 3000 series, with 5 6-car trains owned by Shin-Keisei Railway as the N800 series, 2 8-car sets as Hokuso Railway’s 7500 series, and a single 8-car set of Chiba New Town Railway as the 9200 series. These trains are nearly identical to the mainline 3000 series apart from different liveries. Operationally, the 8 car trains are typically used on Asakusa Line through running services, although they have been mostly displaced by the newer 3100 series for Access Express runs. The 6 car sets operate local services on the Main Line, Chiba Line and Chihara Line.
