======================================================

2S19 ‘Msta-S’ (GABTU index - object 316, NATO classification - M1990 ‘Farm’) is a Soviet and Russian 152 mm divisional self-propelled howitzer.

‘Msta-S’ was developed at the Ural Transport Machine Building Plant. Lenin and State Prizes were awarded for the design and manufacture of this product. The chief designer of the SAU is Y. V. Tomashov, the 152-mm gun 2A64 is designed by G. I. Sergeev. The 2S19 SAU is designed to destroy tactical nuclear weapons, artillery and mortar batteries, tanks and other armoured vehicles, anti-tank vehicles, manpower, air and missile defence, command and control points, as well as to destroy field fortifications and prevent manoeuvres of enemy reserves in the depth of his defence. It can fire at observed and unobserved targets from closed positions and direct fire, including operation in mountainous conditions. Firing uses both rounds from the combat stowage and those fed from the ground. In 1989, the new 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled howitzer was adopted into service with artillery regiments of motorised rifle and tank divisions of the Soviet Army of the USSR Armed Forces. It was first demonstrated at the Zhukovsky Air Show in August 1992.
