Trevi Fountain in Rome

The Trevi Fountain, located in the heart of Rome, is not only a stunning example of Baroque art but also a symbol of the city's grandeur and historical significance. Designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini, the fountain was finished in 1762 after three decades of construction. Standing 26.3 meters high and 49.15 meters wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world.

The fountain is fed by the Aqua Virgo, an ancient aqueduct originally constructed in 19 B.C. during the reign of Augustus, which still supplies water to the fountain today. The central figure of Neptune is flanked by two Tritons, one struggling to control a wild seahorse and the other leading a calmer one, symbolizing the contrasting moods of the sea.

Each day, approximately 3,000 euros are tossed into the fountain by visitors hoping to ensure their return to Rome. This money is collected and donated to a local charity, Caritas, to help those in need.
