Description
Sorry.

In the original fix, I forgot that the metsuke gained additional levels when recruited from a Library Chain building. The original mod resulted in agents at level 4 being recruited from the Magistrate upgrade. This was not my intention to have more powerful agents.

In this version of the mod, the increased bonus level for metsukes recruited from the Library Chain has been reduced by 1 to correct this.

Bug Fix for Metsuke Apprehension of Monks

If you have ever had your favourite Level 6 Monks apprehended by a Level 1 Metsuke, you will be familiar with this problem. It is not RNG. It is a bug.

The Level 1 Metsuke has a 95% success probability when apprehending a Monk of Level 4, 5 or 6. No matter whether the Monk is in an army, or a fort.

Typical success probability against various targets are:
Level 1 Metsuke vs Level 1 Monk 33%*
Level 3 Metsuke vs Level 1 Monk 57%*
Level 4 Metsuke vs Level 1 Monk 64%*

Level 1 Metsuke vs Level 2 Monk 17%*
Level 3 Metsuke vs Level 2 Monk 40%*
Level 4 Metsuke vs Level 2 Monk 47%*

Level 1 Metsuke vs Level 3 Monk 5%*
Level 3 Metsuke vs Level 3 Monk 23%*
Level 4 Metsuke vs Level 3 Monk 30%*

Level 1 Metsuke vs Level 4 Monk 95%*
Level 3 Metsuke vs Level 4 Monk 15%*
Level 4 Metsuke vs Level 4 Monk 21%*

The Level 1 Metsuke success probability remains at 95% for Level 5 and 6 Monk targets.

*Numbers will vary slightly depending whether the target is in the open, in a fort, or in an army.

The problem lies within the game not the database files so cannot be corrected. This mod provides a compromise work-around to stop players losing their precious high level monks to a metsuke straight out of the box.

The mod has Metsukes recruited at Level 2. They will receive their first Retainer and One skill point to spend. They will therefore be better than the default Level 1 metsuke for the first 7 turns after recruiting. They will not get the second skill point until they level up to level 3 which comes at the usual 60 experience point total.

After the first 7 turns they will not be as good as the default which would have already received its two skill points at 20 experience. By staggering the award of the skill points, the difference in income (most players use the metsuke for tax collection) over the period from recruitment to level 3 promotion (60 experience) is not significant.

That doesn't surprise me. I should have looked at them all when I did the metsuke. It probably wouldn't be too hard to come up with a similar fix. Unfortunately I am travelling and don't have the game installed at the moment. When I return I am going to be tied up with a fight (legal not literal) with roofing contracts that is going occupy most of my time for a while, but happy to take a look at it when time allows - unless you can fix it before then :)

Hey Mark! It turns out this is a problem for other agents as well. I got it (95% success) with a rank 1 missionary and "incite revolt" on a town with a big army in it (my 4* only had a 39%). Others have mentioned it with regard to a rank 1 ninja vs high rank daimyo. That one could have been the legendary security bug- I'm not sure.

How easy is it to mod this in for other units? Does it make sense to do so? I suppose it isn't possible to target the specific actions (incite, apprehend, assassinate) and give a bonus to rank 1 agents that goes away with the second star? I haven't dug enough into agents to know what is or isn't possible.

After all these years, game never ceases to pop out a surprise... ;)

However, if Clan B is Shinto-Buddhist as well, the chance of rebellion now regards the percentage of Christianity or Ikko, increasing until a certain point,(ex. Higher if christianity is 20%, lower if it is 80%) and the presence of rival religious buildings(ex. Nanban Trade Port/ Quarter/ Chapel, Leased Land possibly. Also, rebellion could be incited in a province that already has rebels, as long as they are of different religions. I cannot mod for the life of me, I was just wondering what you think. You can use the idea, I don't need credit, I just hate pointless revolts. Thanks!

I also had a question. Would it be possible to "fix" the revolt system in Shogun 2? It's very broken, and I think I have an idea on how to fix it. Say Clan A is trying to incite a revolt in the province of Clan B, and Clan A is Shinto-Buddhist. Now, the chance of success would increase based on the presence of a rival agent, the percent of Shinto-Buddhist population, Religious unhappiness, General unhappiness, and religious buildings not Shinto.

Iamthesrc - Sorry, I've been away and had limited access to Steam. Think I saw a friend request from you that I didn't get around to replying to and the request is not there now. Have sent a request and, if it wasn't you that sent it, feel free to ignore :)
