Zero Hour: The Imperial And The Revolutionary

--What is ZeroHour?--

In 1936, the footsteps of war draw ever closer to the world order forged by imperialism.

To tell the whole story, one must go back to March 13, 1881. A member of “Narodnaya Volya” (The People's Will), clutching a bomb, was gunned down before he could fulfill his mission. The attempt on Tsar Alexander II’s life ultimately failed. Though he narrowly escaped death, the Tsar—shaken by repeated assassination attempts—was forced to fundamentally rethink the direction of his reforms. He suspended his political reforms and instead launched sweeping economic modernization.

Alexander II found in the bourgeois class a new foundation of loyal support for the tsarist regime, replacing the stagnant aristocracy and ineffectual intelligentsia. The sweeping modernization policies bore fruit. Under the reign of Nicholas II, the Russian Empire achieved its southern expansionist goals in both East and West through the Russo-Japanese War and the First World War.

The Russian sphere of influence—the so-called “Petersburg System”—now stretches from Korea and Manchuria to the Oder River across Eurasia, and even down to East Africa via Persia and Iraq.

Gone is the humiliation of the Crimean War. The once-tiny state of Muscovy, fearful of Polish-Lithuanian coalitions in its frozen hinterlands, has risen to become a true global hegemon.

And yet, the colossal machine that is the Russian state—built on the sacrifices of countless lives—is beginning to rust and groan under the weight of its own bloodstained legacy. The 1920s saw the rise of Slavophiles replacing the left-wing factions, while the Great Depression brought economic stagnation. The challenges are immense.

The Empire is a "blind giant." Where is this enormous nation headed?

The German Empire, after total war on both eastern and western fronts, shattered into pieces. From the rubble of Bismarck’s and Wilhelm’s legacy emerged an unlikely successor—the communists.

The German Council Republic (Deutsche Räterepublik), under leaders like Levi and Brandler, initially sought international recognition and aimed to become a moderate, cooperative member of the European order. But that vision ended with the rise of Wilhelm Pieck.

Pieck rapidly centralized power within the Party and under his own leadership as General Secretary. He now aims to establish a new order under the red banner of Germany, across Europe—excluding the reactionary states.

Within the Council Republic, bitter power struggles rage between the centralizing Party-State faction led by Pieck, the nationalist faction, the reformists, and the fanatical Total War revivalists.

But they are not the only players. The "Black Eagle League"—a dissident alliance formed from the old SPD-based parties expelled from the United Front—and the “Anti-Communist Salvation Front” forged by the ghosts of the Empire, are also forces to be reckoned with inside Germany.

Who will claim the Council’s throne, the Reichstag? The fate of the world may well hinge on that answer.

Britain, having fought alongside Germany in the Great War to contain its archrival Russia, ultimately found itself—despite near-white peace—relegated to the status of a defeated power. Where is this now inglorious world empire headed?

The French Colonial Empire, seizing the opportunity in Britain’s decline, has risen as Western Europe’s new hegemon. Yet even now, the Métropole is straining to maintain its sprawling domains.

Japan, stripped of glory and honor in the Russo-Japanese War, has fallen into political chaos. The Great Kantō Earthquake and war defeat triggered a full-blown socialist revolution. The "Empire of Japan" now holds only Okinawa and Taiwan. The main islands are under the control of the new “Republic of Japan.”

These two suns are bound to clash in a bid for unification—by any means necessary, no matter the cost.

Now, the outbreak of the “next great war” is no longer a question of if, but when.

Will the old empires preserve their global order?
Or will emerging forces put an end to the imperial age and usher in a new world order through victory and glory?

One thing is certain: the world now stands on the threshold of a New Order.
And the key to that door will be bought with the corpses—and blood—of tens of millions.

We're currently focusing on translating the German contents files, so while translating the NF descriptions is difficult, we expect to have most of the NF titles fully translated by the next update!

Sorry about that! Since the original language is Japanese, the untranslated parts might be showing up as "?" in the English version due to font incompatibility.
In the next update, the translation coverage of existing content will be improved, so please look forward to it!

Thank you! I will work even harder to upload content that meets your expectations in the future!
As for Germany's eastern border, Zero Hour has its own complicated pre-history. Until World War I, the territories of the German Empire and the Russian Empire (and its puppet, the Kingdom of Poland) were as they were in historical fact. The defeat of the German Reich in World War I led to further westward expansion of Russian and Polish territories. The territory of Poland was reorganized in the 20s, with the eastern part of the country coming under the direct control of the Russian Empire. In other words, Russia's drastic reduction of Polish territory occurred after Germany had already lost its international status.
In addition, the game uses the notation “Vistula Land,” the Governor-General's Government, which also existed in historical times, in order to give the impression of Russian control over Poland.

Your explanation definetely makes sense with the added context. I didnt intend to cause such a debate in the first place. The content for the mod, even though not fully translated yet, is great. The focus icons look incredible the mod definetely has its own recognisable style which im sure you guys were aming for. If you finish the translation im sure this will blow up. I just gotta ask one more thing why did germany loose pommerania and parts of eastern brandenburg post world war one. eastern prussia makes sense with a stronger and unified russia in mind, but since poland is only about 1/3 of its historic size how would a germany which saw those lands as core territory give it up ?
@WW2大勝ソビエト
thank you for listening, I did not want to cause any trouble or complicate your work, I am sorry.

@Ave, True To Caesar!
It is true that in German, “Deutsche sozialistische Räterepublik” makes more sense as a tribute to the Soviet Union.
I will discuss this with the foreign language translation team.
